If you're ever in doubt, just use Signal with the usernames feature. Don't use any of those "signal alternative" apps unless a cryptographer AND a software dev have reviewed them. Matrix is better than nothing, but vulnerable to some protocol weaknesses that a three-letter-agency might exploit.

This includes stuff that is morally good, like offers to share HRT. Even in cases where buying DIY is legal, *distributing* it usually is not. Same with protesting - you have a right to protest, but some governments have weakened the right to *organize* a protest. Keep those conversations private!

Reminder: tech companies are snitches. Don't talk about less-than-legal things on BlueSky, discord, or other commercial platforms. Even fedi isn't really safe if your admin gets a visit from the guys with suits and glasses.
