Unfortunately, only shutting down the govt puts the burden of change on Federal Workers, low income beneficiaries and politicians - ICE still got their money. A General Strike and National Boycott starting on 1/30 (or whenever the shutdown occurs) is probably what is necessary.

Shutting down government just puts the onus of change solely on Federal workers and politicians, and really doesn't do anything (as a couple of Dems will cross the aisle to get a DHS funding bill passed).

I think a lot of American's have forgotten what happened during the BLM protests. A lot of white protestors were shot, run over, and horrifically injured. Even with a mostly sympathetic media and twitter on the side of the movement, not much was done that wasn't performative or easily revoked.

CNN front paging the Maduro kidnapping is surreal. We'll deal with that later. Right now, the big problem is ICE storms, child kidnappings, and a pedophile cult.

It wouldn't be all that hard for Journalism to correct itself. Pick one scandal. Harp on that scandal all day, every day. Moving from one issue to the other just minimizes all issues.
