Ray Charles - Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music (1962)

Liked it more than I thought. A collection of standards (mainly about break ups and sad love) reimagined in typical 50s/early 60s pop and soul style, with a bit of R&B

Soul Glo - Diaspora Problems

Hardcore punk and hip hop seems a perfect match, both come from a tradition of anger, politically commitment and energic music. Soul Glo are not the first to do it, but this remains one of the best example of it with its moving basslines and scratching riffs

Einstürzende Neubauten - ½ Mensch

A masterpiece if there was ever once, it takes everything the Einstürzende had done and takes it to a new level, at some point I was genuinely scared. I will need to relisten to it again to capture all the dark and metallic shades that are in here

If you're ever surprised by how clueless we are, just remember that a scant 45 years ago Cannibal Holocaust came out and 90% of the population was like "holy shit is this REAL?!"
If you’re ever surprised by how clueless we, as a people, appear to be sometimes, just remember that a scant 25 years ago The Blair Witch project came out and 90% of the population was like “holy shit is this REAL?!”

Kim Deal - Nobody Loves You More

Not bad but not great. The pieces that work better, even if quite predictable, are the ones more close to the noise pop of the Breeders (Cystal Breath is amazing), while the more slow pieces with the strings and even wind instruments are quite forgettable

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

I generally dislike the disco-post-punk of the 2000s ,but this is a fun album that while unashamed of its inspirations (Talking Heads, New Order, Roxy Music...) remains fun until the second half, where it kinda loses itself with some uninventive tracks

Fun stuff: Italy has such a mess of a tax code that this can actually happen and it's not even that rare of an occurrence
The USA Today once published this with zero irony

Astor Piazzolla y su Quinteto - Adiós Nonino

Beautiful album that merge tango and classical music in an inventive way, putting the seeds of what will be known as Tango Nuevo. The entire record is surrounded by an air of sorrow and gloominess, but never of full desperation

I still can't believe that the next VP of the USA will be someone influenced by Nick Land of all people

Like it or not this will be the biggest cultural legacy of Deleuze, Baudrillard etc.

Teenage Jesus and The Jerks - Teenage Jesus and The Jerks

Less than 10 minutes of pure "no wave". Lydia Lunch vocals unite the haunting voice of Siouxsie with the doomed poetry of Patti Smith creating pieces that are like shards of totalizing music that go straight to the heart

Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil

I love Shorter impressionist style, lively even in the more slow pieces and still moody in the fast ones. There is always an ambiguity in the music, like if below the surface there is something that can't be put at rest.
Also some of Hancock best piano work!

Tina Brooks - True Blue

A lesser known hard bop gem from Blue Note discography. Compared to the masterpieces of its time sometimes it results a bit anonymous in the improvisation and phrasing, but it's still full of solid compositions played by very talented performers

Shūzō Oshimi is one of the best mangaka working today, happy he is finally receiving recognition

Also for his new manga Welcome Back, Alice he decided to tackle directly the theme of queerness and transgenderism

There is a scene in Megalopolis where the silhouette of a dead woman pregnant with two twins becomes five women who themselves turn into the bottom of the sea

It is better than 90% of movies I've seen this year #filmsky 📽
