Usually those smaller partitions are stuff like recovery (in case of an OS failure/corrupted files) and EFI (loads up the stuff needed to let the operating system communicate with the hardware). Usually installing an OS will create those as part of the process iirc.

Oh yeah, and it’s nice if you have a lot of folks in a household or multiple PCs, so you don’t need to keep passing an external or a flash drive around.

If I recall, with my pi I needed a charger, sd card adaptor, sd card, I recommend a case, and then whatever cables you need.
