Ultimately it depends on whether they are able to operate LLMs profitably but between the insane amounts of energy they consume and the constant lawsuits, there is very little chance of that happening without some technological breakthrough. But that would also mean starting over from scratch so.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I really don't think this Pikmin short is anything more than just an animated short by Nintendo Pictures. I don't get any vibe there's a tease for a game or bigger announcement.

And animation isn't "pointless" because it isn't trying to sell you a specific product.

Not to be the "well actually" guy, but Tron was profitable and Disney's biggest live-action hit at the time, even if they were disappointed it didn't make more $$$. The arcade game was also popular, and the film developed a cult following later. Tron: Legacy was also profitable.

Pretty confused by how TRON became a big-budget movie franchise. Was it a bit hit when it came out? No. Did it become a big hit on video/TV? Also no. Do people have fond nostalgic memories of it? Eh kinda but not really. Was it secretly great and critically acclaimed? No again
