In retrospect, it’s startling how obvious the sale of Lucasfilm should’ve been after the prequels, since Lucas had maneuvered himself into the same position of owning a giant production company without much of anything to produce, just as he had after Return of the Jedi wrapped.
73. Disney saved Star Wars. This is what Saved Star Wars looks like. Before they opened their suitcase full of money, Lucasfilm’s best ideas they had going at the time were that I’m Han Solo Kinect game and Star Wars Detours.

I sound like I'm underwater (I had to chuck my podcasting equipment after my basement apartment flooded), but @whimsicalphil.bsky.social was kind enough to sit with me last night to wax nostalgic about Thanksgiving while we watched 80's Macy's Thanksgiving segments & commercials last night:

Not Chinese American and I don't want to take away from Brandon's point which is very good, but I'll always have a fondness for the animated short for the 2008 Olympics that was directed by James Hewlett of Gorillaz fame:

He went to the Sci-Fi shelf–and had another shock. “I, Robot” was there, but not the forgettable action movie with Will Smith–this was older, and the credits said “written by Harlan Ellison.

Build a time machine so Harryhausen gets to make his War of the Worlds.

James Whale’s A Trip to Mars. Dracula starring Lon Chaney rather than Lugosi. Close Encounters-era Spielberg’s Peter Pan. Brad Bird’s The Spirit (or Ray Gunn). Superman Lives. Romero’s Resident Evil. Nick Cave’s Gladiator 2.

Man, Arthur Christmas had become a core part of my wee collection of Christmas entertainment perennials.

Shockingly fun, funny and good-hearted, despite the dated CGI (and godawful turn-of-the-century, Jet Force Gemini-ass ‘this is looked futuristic in 2002’ UI scattered throughout the movie)
Nov 25th - Gwen Hines posted her letter to Father Christmas.

My biggest thing about the Wicked movies was seeing how they were gonna turn the Scarecrow into a conventionally-fuckable hunk.

The way they kept him obscured in For Good made me assume that they had fucked it up, but, no, it turns out he was actually (relatively) fine?
