we need to bring the hammer down on wealthy and connected elites. it’s been desperately needed for a long time. regardless of party or politics.
Something the US needs to accept too is that without a large-scale correction imposing consequences on a large number of people, the crisis of governance here will continue indefinitely

finally made it to a "subscribe to Hulu + Live TV" button and laughed out loud when it hit me with this in response

My jaw on the floor as I find myself unable to replace my YouTube TV subscription with a Hulu subscription because I am unable to log in to my Disney+ account because the "make changes to via iTunes" option is bricked and Disney's customer service line just loops back to "please use our online FAQ!"

Difficult to express how much I hate these kajillion-dollar companies, who are loosely colluding with one another to make something as simple as account management so labyrinthine as to be functionally impossible ❤️

Huh well it turns out I heard from a few federal workers about this and well

"We civil servants organized to help our colleagues face the hardship of the shutdown, we put up with the pain and our only request was to not be betrayed like this. Trade our pain, make it count."

They're going to strip healthcare from their constituents rather than risk experiencing inconvenience.
not enough chatter about how frequently members fly and how attacking airport capacity directly affects them in a way that cutting SNAP does not

Consumer product thinking applied to collective risk, combined with moral resentment, is a hell of a thing. It becomes a kind of fantasy substitution.

They want it replaced with something that’s never existed, that was never promised and couldn’t function if it did.
Tell me you don’t understand risk pools without telling me you don’t understand risk pools

I love (hate) the part about "Sorry, policy means no live person physically seeing you can change decisions made by the AI"

Really drives the dystopia home.

a humans doing this goes to jail, but program a robot to do it for you and suddenly there is no human perpetrator

ai is the perfect fall guy, they want to do crimes, they want ai to take the blame for shit that became their fault the moment they deployed it after firing every ethics committees

it's like how data breaches used to be a huge deal that made the news and corporations would offer free credit monitoring or whatever. now they barely even fucking notify you and when they do it's like "oopsie! we let all your data get stolen again! sowwy hehe"

we should not be letting any company get away with blaming AI for their failures. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. people are like "it's just a tool" okay so is a forklift and we still hold somebody responsible when it goes wrong and hurts someone. this is YOUR AI!

The ACA made my whole self-employed life possible. For almost ten years, I was able to build a career that actually worked for me AND keep receiving necessary care to address the consequences of childhood medical neglect. And I still deserved better. We all do.

"Am I too old for --"

Are you dead? Then no, you're not too old for that. It may work differently, not everything may be possible, you may never be a "pro" at whatever it is, but if you want it there's probably a way for you to have it. Unless you're dead. And if you're dead? Ask fewer questions.
