It's just so hard to know he would do something like this unless you look at literally everything else he has ever done in his entire life, all of which is extensively documented.

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Cuomo was an unusually bad candidate but Mamdani won a very high profile race where both parties were working together and were actively throwing everything they had into stopping him.
