This is sarcasm for those who are unfamiliar with me. Sad that needs to be said.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
This is wrecker bullshit from someone who lacks the courage to do anything but talk. Just say you hate Democrats more than fascists.

If you come for my people, you come through me.

It's hard to find a comparison. The closest I can get is if the US declared war on Mexico & people evacuated Laredo just to on the safe side. If Mexico somehow won, do they have a right of return 75 years later?
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
I always enjoy our discussions. I wish you well until the next time we talk.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
Good point. Who declared war, there?
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
Let's be honest. The number of descendents of those 300,000 who would want to return to Israel in a 2SS is pretty small.

I'll let you elaborate on whether it's good that they return to apartments recently occupied by Jewish families.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
No, I did not. I implied many Palestinians assumed if they left, they would be able to return soon after the combined Arab armies wiped out the Zionists. Not a crazy assumption, tbh.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
My opinion depends mostly on the idea of "do you want to be in a war zone?" being something most people would answer in the negative. My reading suggests most Palestinians thought the combined Arab armies would win in 1948. Unknown how many evacuated with that assumption vs Begin's terrorism.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
"A lot" means at least a significant proportion compared to those who fled in terror after things got hot. I'm quite sure if you asked Palestinian alive in 1947 if they thought they were going to return soon, most would have said"yes".
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
The more relevant fact is that multiple Arab nations declared their intention to wipe out the incipient Zionist state & drive the Jews into the sea. You are full aware they weren't intending to establish a "Democratic multi-ethnic state".
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
You're asking me to accept an after the fact poll of some sort made long after the events about which Palestinians left because of threats & which assumed they'd be back in their homes in a few weeks.

There's no way to tell the proportion, imo.

Looking for the village that moved to Canada after Trump won.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
Gonna go out on a limb here & think some individual decisions were made on this rather than 6 out of 400 villages.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
I suspect you're mad about how I drew a direct line between current MAGA anti-immigrant rhetoric & the anti-semitic hostility towards Jewish immigration that was rampant among Palestinian Arabs long before 1948 or even 1918.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
A tragedy. I believe your word is nakba.

The Arab nations surrounding Israel chose a war they believed they would win decisively. Instead, they created... dare I say it?

Magneto.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
Really, great job. I'll be blocked by another dozen people who haven't got a clue about how ugly that history is, because they think anti-semitism was invented in America.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
Good luck with this, but I think I was quite clear that about Palestinian Arabs getting out of a war zone they assumed would result in their return to a Jew free Palestine.

Multiple things can be true. A lot of Palestinians left in what they thought was a temporary evacuation until the Arab armies drove the Jews into the sea. Some of the Jewish paramilitary used terror tactics to drive entire villages into flight.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
Zionism is inextricably tied to the Judaistic idea of returning to Israel. Among believers, the debate is mostly about whether this is the time.

I'd be interested in seeing a survey of how many members of JVP are religious.
somanymonkeys.bsky.social
"Expelled" is not the term I would use for people who evacuated with the assumption Arabs would win the war.

If you're trying to talk about something prior to 1947, I have no clue what you're talking about.

"In 1908, the Ottoman government granted a concession to drain the marsh to a French firm, which sold it to Lebanese businessmen."

There's a lot to get mad about how Palestinian Arabs were treated when the land they were cultivating was sold. Obsession with Jews is a tell.

In my attempt to post daily about something not related to current politics...

When did "History" begin in the sense of contemporaneously recorded history?

If the Ottomans has any kind of an effective wetlands preservation policy, Zionism would've been halted in it's tracks in 1890.

I think the majority of Bluesky were the target audience of Katie Porter's charts, but it's funny that the majority of Bluesky is keenly aware of that fact.

People got mad at me when I said Katie Porter was obviously a bad person, but like,
yasharali.bsky.social
Someone who used to work with Katie Porter sent me this clip from a train wreck interview with her and said “now imagine what she’s like when there aren’t cameras around.”

There's a huge break in Jus sanguinis between the Americas & the rest of the world that I'd like to give credit to & *defend*.

You get here & have kids, your kids are citizens. That's absent from every nation in the ME.
