Ed Nelson starred along with Norman Fell and Phyllis Diller in one of my favorite horror movies of the 90s, THE BONEYARD. It has a real Resident Evil feel to it but came out several years earlier. #Cinemon

You can't put two character actors as big as Ed Nelson and William Schallert this close in a room together like this. It could open a wormhole. #Cinemon

Well, if his sword was his only friend, at least he didn't die alone.

Thank you for joining us for #SpaceApeCinema tonight. We loved to hate Tatsuya Nakadai this week, and we can hate him more next week as Kurosawa's Japanese King Lear. Join us for the classic RAN.

Always have to point out an appearance from the great Hideyo Amamoto (except when I didn't last week... d'oh). IMDB ain't kidding when they say he was one of Japan's most recognizable character actors. #SpaceApeCinema

#SpaceApeCinema starts now, continuing our memorial salute to Tatsuya Nakadai.
December 7, 2025 at 6:00 AM
#SpaceApeCinema tonight at 1AM E, we continue our Tatsuya Nakadai tribute with a story of unrepentant and irredeemable evil. Nakadai is an assassin with no qualms for killing. Nothing comes easier, but the souls of the dead--his dead-- know he has a soul that can suffer. He wields the SWORD OF DOOM.

Malachi Throne as Commodore Mendez on Star Trek from "The Menagerie," as False Face on Batman. Noah Bain on It Takes a Thief was his longest-running non-character role. Also the voice of God on Animaniacs. #GHWP

Those "we buy ugly houses" vultures are really going to clean up in this town.

Thank you for joining us for #SpaceApeCinema tonight. Our Tatsuya Nakadai tribute continues next week with THE SWORD OF DOOM. More Mifune, too!

We've seen Yoko Tsukasa a few times in past #SpaceApeCinema features. Still with us at 91 and acted in some of the best Kurosawa and Ozu classics.

She was in A Woman's Place, which we watched for our Akira Takarada memorial. The other male lead of that film?

Tatsuya Nakadai.

#SpaceApeCinema tonight at 1AM E, our salute to Tatsuya Nakadai continues with a film that needs no description. Take one of the greatest directors, add one of his favorite film genres: the American Western, and you get a Japanese classic with all the true grit and then some. Join us for YOJIMBO.

Of course Carl Lumbly had more than one brush with superhero TV. He went on to voice the Martian Manhunter on the Justice League animated series. #GHWP

The #slutfluff lap cat situation tonight was four. Movie was so good I didn't even notice them accumulate.

#SpaceApeCinema this Saturday night at 1AM, if you've woken from your food coma, we're continuing our memorial salute to Tatsuya Nakadai with one of the most memorable films of his career. Brash, bloodthirsty, armed. Nakadai believes the way of the gun is already here in Kurosawa's YOJIMBO.

Carl Lumbly, star of a superhero show I unironically loved back in the early 90s, M. A. N. T. I. S. #Cinemon

We couldn't give Tatsuya Nakadai a proper send-off with only one film, even if it was considered one of the greatest films ever made, so we're not going to do that. #SpaceApeCinema will continue to honor him throughout November and December. Santo will return in January.

Tatsuya Nakadai and Toshiro Mifune. More greatness than one shot should be able to handle. #SpaceApeCinema

#SpaceApeCinema starts now, for Tatsuya Nakadai.

My favorite part in the fifty-some-odd times I've watched Defying Gravity already is Jeff Goldblum's Wizard as the Ian Malcolm antithesis. The scene adapted so beautifully, accentuated by the Wizard realizing he just handed nuclear launch codes to a teenager with anger management issues. #Wicked

#SpaceApeCinema tonight at 1AM E, we remember the great Tatsuya Nakadai. Adapted from Ed McBain's 87th Precinct novel King's Ransom, Nakadai leads the investigation in a crucial entry in the police procedure genre with Toshiro Mifune as the target. Join us for Akira Kurosawa's classic HIGH AND LOW.
