Nov 16, 1950 The British Overseas Airways Corporation hoped to place Comet jet airliners into service to carry passengers by next September or October. When the Comet service was ultimately extended to Sydney the journey would be completed in 35 hours' flying time instead of the present 31 days.

Nov 14, 1950 The first pilot to shoot down an opposing jet in the world's first jet-versus-jet fighter duel in aviation history tonight said that the Soviet MIG 15 back-swept wing jet, one of which he shot down, is at least 100 miles faster than the American Shooting Star jet which he was flying.

Nov 12, 1950 The Chinese have slowed their military operations in Tibet, according the Indian Foreign Ministry. The Ministry believes that the Chinese may be regrouping, or planning to use Tibetans who favour China as fifth columnists, have turned south towards the direction of the Indian border.

#WWII Ira Hayes was born in 1923 in the town of Sacaton, Arizona, located within the Gila River Indian Community, a reservation featuring members of both the Pima and Maricopa tribes (Hayes’ heritage was Pima). He was the oldest of the six children of Joseph Hayes, a WWI veteran.

Dad was friends with a #WWII US Navy Blimp veteran based at Tillamook. He patrolled the Pacific Coast.

The hangar measures about 1,000 feet long, 300 feet wide and 200 feet tall, covering 7 acres. The facility is the only publicly accessible hangar remaining from the five still standing nationwide.

Nov 8, 1950 Lt Russell J Brown, USAF, is credited with shooting down a Russian built MiG 15 jet fighter near the Yalu River while flying a F-80 Shooting Star. Nov 8, 1950 80 B-29s today dropped 650 tons of bombs on to the Korean ends of the two main bridges which link Manchuria. In an air battle over North Korea, an American jet fighter shot down a Russian built jet and damaged another. This is the first jet fighter ever shot down in an aerial dogfight.

Nov 7, 1950 Television Appeal. Governor Thomas E Dewey staged a marathon political rally on television. He faced the television cameras at dawn and stayed in the studio for 18 hours until midnight. His marathon reflected a trend this year to make television a big feature of campaign technique.
