Hello this is dog
Hahaha yeah mine is half of a cute nickname I was once called, and half acknowledgement of artistic and autistic burnout, and it happened to have archaic etymology of a black furred animal so it felt like a good fit

Soot (what's left clinging on after burnout) + dog (woof) = a big sad fat dogthing
At last, whats behind Lobinez username?

Lobo (wolf) + Godínez (boring office worker in Mexican slang) = Lobinez

It used to be an inside joke between my wife and me, until I started using it as a username for the amusement it provided.

It's the last day of the year, so I wanted to look back on some of the cool places we went together. Check out alt text for more info! I'll add to the thread as the clock counts down today <3

Welp. My break is over now, and I smashed my hand badly so it's pretty much useless. Of course. Just wanted a week to rest and recover, but that's too much to ask from the universe. I didn't even get 3 days.

Burnout intensifies.

Today was a sunbreak so we stopped to see the eagles again 🦅

Doesn't look like I'll get any downtime for the end of the year despite my best efforts. The depression/burnout is real. Hope I'll get surprised.

Holiday gathering reminder 🎁

If your guests test w/rapids twice before the event, 48 hours apart, it’ll catch 63% of Covid cases even if they have no symptoms. Testing 3x improves that to 79%!

This is how we curb the annual January surge that gave me Long Covid—thanks for protecting yr community 🤍

Trying to believe the future can be like this experience: shaky and imperfect, but still beautiful and worth seeing

Slept in a Temple of the Dog shirt, woke up out in the woods with the badgers and the wolves.
Slept in an Evanescence shirt, can't wake up.
Slept in an Alanis Morissette shirt, woke up with my hand in my pocket

Found a bit of fur I've been holding on to for almost 15 years. It's heat damaged, but I have the skills to fix it now so I can use it 🖤

I can tell you exactly what I love about art: I love art because it's proof that some human(s) had enough time and energy to sit down and just make things. Painting, crochet, costumes, cakes, clothing, a really fancy sandwich, idgaf what they're making, just that they got a chance to do the thing!

Learning to draw can help you overcome that kind of discomfort. It helped me realize early on in my life that it was no big deal. I can just try again until i get it right. Drawing taught me how to be persistent, because it taught me that frustration is a fragile barrier that can be broken through.

adult beginner artists struggle to overcome, is the frustration barrier. The self-shame of doing something "incorrectly" or "unsuccessfully" just so completely takes them out. We are so adverse to feeling that sort of discomfort, that giving up (or not trying at all) is the "better" option.

Most of us understand that drawing isn't a matter of inherent talent, but aquired skill. I also think a lot about how your success in learning to draw might have to do with how well you handle frustration, and how comfortable you are with making mistakes. The barrier i usually see--

So I guess I'm working on what folks are calling a truesona these days. It feels like my last attempt to have a "self" at this point. Skeptical it'll help, but what do I have to lose? Only hope, at this point.

Remembering the time the sky was so dusty I was able to get a picture of sunspots (yes I checked that day and it was a match so it's not just dirt on the lens)
