“It weirdly a lot of fun looking for dead people!”

I’m currently reading Juan Rulfo’s Pedro Páramo. I’m not sure if I’m alive or dead anymore. I’m fine. It’s fantastic.

Jane Goodall has died at 91.

Her startling observations about chimpanzee behaviors revolutionized not only scientific understanding of the capabilities and inner lives of primates, but also long-held notions about what it means to be human. https://wapo.st/476clLO

Chris Thacker and I have published a new review on the phylogenetics and biology of acanthopterygian fishes. This lineage includes more than 19,100 species, comprising nearly one third of all species of vertebrate animals!

Trying to make the perfect cookie (for me) so far I know it’s involves always browning the butter, using Dark brown sugar, and having more egg yolk to egg white. Still tweaking flour ratio and time in oven.
Pretty tasty experimentation.

Poetic and poignant
About fifty years ago, NASA strapped a message in a bottle to a rocket and flung it into the deep dark
It wasn’t supposed to go this far, but it did. Long past its mission, it’s still out there so far away now that a simple hello takes a day to reach it, and another day to hear if it says hello back

I've written a post about Gibellula agroflorestalis, a species of spider-killing fungus which has been described from the agroforestry systems of Brazil.

I’m screaming too, Paddlefish, I’m screaming too.

ALT: Paddlefish feed by swimming with their large mouths agape, using a paddle-like rostrum to detect plankton. The plankton is filtered out of water using gill structures. They appear to be screaming.
Music: Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin.

It’s wild to me how much this rocking me. But I was always so excited for new posts and see where he was taking us next. He was a good dude and honestly made me believe in good people again. I’m sad.
36-year-old Andrew Cross, known to his YouTube audience as “Desert Drifter,” died Tuesday, weeks after he sustained a serious brain injury while involved in a car accident.

I found out one of my favorite YouTube creators died. The Desert Drifter would take you on hikes with him through the American southwest, taking you to hard to reach places and pointing out archeological sites you will never see. I’m going to miss him dearly.

I miss my trees 😔

I know humans knowing how to cut down trees was arguably as critical to human expanse as climbing down from the trees but I will never not be impressed with the efficiency in which we do it. Bye bye dead trees in my yard

Listening to two friends going through situations I have experienced has been strangely cathartic for me. I can hear their anguish in their voice and fears. And I know it all. It’s frustrating that all I can do is tell them “give it time” that’s really the only balm I can offer besides understanding

Weird thing I’ve noticed about myself traveling internationally. I never have (or mostly) a stomach issue. Adjusting to the foods of a region doesn’t bother me. It’s shocking because I have a sensitive stomach. Back in the USA though I get wrecked. Absolutely live or die by a need for pepto or like.
