Swearing, feminism, lefty, eco, argumentativeness, home education, science, public engagement with science. Occasional pedantry. And maybe some menopause jokes. I failed to copy over my contacts from the other place. I’ve not ditched you on purpose.

The bulk of my sex education came from Jackie magazine.

People who are punctual early risers 100% think this makes them morally superior to ADHD + evening cronotype people like myself.

Also, can someone tell Google maps that it’s possible to turn a car around?

Right lads, could the people who make takeaway containers all get together and agree on an EXACT shape for the lids?
sophiacollins.bsky.social
Exactly this!
I’d quite like there to be a couple of years compulsory national service, working as a delivery driver, or a hospital porter, or something, before anyone can become an MP, or a judge, or similar.

If the government really wants to scrap degrees which deliver no value to the UK and indeed have led to £ billions in damage to the economy and culture of the UK then it just needs to scrap the Oxford PPE degree and arrest everyone who has taken it.

Clacton has the ⬆️ no of families in England & Wales with deprivation in all 4 measures - employment, education, health, housing. Economic inactivity & low productivity are serious structural issues. Farage is ghosting Clacton for the kind of £ they can't begin to imagine while their kids go hungry

The word 'earned' doesn't feel quite right here. Wonder when he's planning on holding his first surgery for constituents or setting up a local office? Could use his 900k Frinton pool house!

Twelve Jobs Nigel has earned over £1 million in additional income since the general election.

To understand the scale of it, since the July 2024 election he's earned roughly £100k more as a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion than Starmer gets as PM.

The thing about crashing a tank through a museum of antiquities is that you don't have to be a particularly skilled driver to do a lot of damage.

It's difficult at times to hold both "this admin is doing lasting and serious damage to our institutions and the globe" and "this admin is full of the most bafflingly incompetent idiots you've ever seen who fall over themselves like a Vaudeville act constantly."

The duality of man is incredible.

That’s very funny. But it doesn’t look high end enough for a Disney poster. More a CBBC series.

It’s kind of weird though that the UK’s only Holocaust Museum is in a tiny, random village in North Nottinghamshire.

And certainly no barrier to progression in the Tory party.

Not racist, just an equal-opportunities amoral psychopath, you mean? That does seem plausible.

Home ed trip to the National Holocaust Museum today. I really recommend it.
A facsimile bakers shop, with a smashed window and a Star of David and the word ‘Jude’ daubed on it in red paint.

“The changing of names in order to destigmatise these conditions has been done for a very long time... And in my opinion, it doesn't work... because history suggests that sanitising a name only works for as long as people don't know what that new name means.”

Do you think it’s because you have teaching, so you don’t feel as dependent on keeping in the publishing industry’s good books?

And I feel like this is the biggest problem with living in a patriarchy. That the absolute centrality of how we treat children is so little appreciated by mainstream discourse. Mainly women are doing the childrearing, squashed into the margins, while men masturbate over building bridges or whatever.

Silent corridors, detentions for forgetting a pen. They are fucking poisonous.
Similarly strict parenting practices.
If we can’t love and nurture babies and children, then we are not going to be able to save the planet.
sophiacollins.bsky.social
It seems to obvious to me that hate, fear, Trump and Putin, can’t save the world.
Love and connection might have a chance.
Everything we do to bring more fear-based control into children’s lives drives them, as future voters, to fascism and destruction.
sophiacollins.bsky.social
How do you deal with that existential terror?
The person with the fear-based childhood looks for an authoritarian strongman, who will be strict and hurt people.
The person with the connection-based childhood looks for community and connection.

We are entering a scary time for the world. Even the climate deniers know, on some level, that we are destroying the planet and the climate. And that chaos lies ahead.
sophiacollins.bsky.social
This is my grand unifying theory of everything, as it happens.
If babies learn through fear they will turn into a completely different person than if they learn through connection.
They will vote differently, they will behave differently in their adult lives. They will create a different world.
