Dennis was an incredible musician and teacher. They were one of Joe’s favorite bands—he saw them A LOT—before he was asked to join. They were quite popular in the Midwest, dancey, exciting, and might’ve broken to national fame but Chris craved a different musical direction; hence, Souled American.

I was never lucky enough to see Uptown Rulers but I have interviewed a number of people who insist they were the greatest live band they’d ever seen. And now sadly surprisingly everyone pictured here but Chris is dead. Michael Goodrich was Chris’s best friend and Gary Hicks also a very close buddy.

More and more and more people come here now from all over which generates income for the peninsula and important projects and improvements. But as with any successful zoo, it’s tough to teach conservation to the masses without simultaneously undoing the effort.

I am lucky to live closeby and their membership is cheap and I go often.
