Was just listening to the version of that on his 1998 “Perfect Night: Live In London” album.

Has to be said: most younger ones don’t!

The Captain weren’t wrong!

I only know their debut album, The Gods Hate Kansas, which very much seems like a best-kept secret. Stooges-y and Cramps-y, but without being a copyist of either.

Ah, okay, that makes sense. I’ve heard the term, but not sure how widespread it was, stateside. Thanks!

Out of a nagging curiosity, have you any specific memories of The Baitfish Boys, out of Leeds?

Still a very common practice here.

Was that image of Theda always incorporated into their masthead? Why her?

The only difference, for me, is that music has the ability to completely alter your body chemistry, in a matter of seconds. As much as I love art – or film or literature – music is the only medium that can do that. It's magic.

It's very much a matter of worrying about what the near future might hold – any sense of security feels like a false sense of security. The only thing for certain is that things are going to get worse – far, far worse – before they get better.

Must be to do with international distribution. It used to be something of a fixture on late night cable. Sorta like Liquid Sky. But better.

I saw it when it first came out. Then had it on vhs and, later, on dvd.

Quaint and antiquated notions, sadly.

Good as does, really, because nobody is bothering to fucking tell him that he doesn’t own it.

We both must have blinked.

The care that Vaughan Oliver put into just the label was incredible. He was one of the very best.

That must’ve been a hell of a comeback in between.

They don’t look like they hated it!

Thanks – “trying days” may be an enormous understatement. Thankfully, there’s a sense of being in a bubble while living here in NYC, but who knows if that will hold, or for how long. Everything’s well and truly grim, stateside.

Thanks for this... at a glance, I like a lot of his work, as well. I’ve marked it for a closer look tomorrow. I’m not a big fan of abstract works, but I like the movement in a lot of his pieces. Thanks!

I like those a lot, as well. The only works that didn’t hit me immediately were the Window Self-Portraits. But I’ll look at them again tomorrow, with fresh eyes.

And his portraits are amazing – nearly sculptural, given the layers upon layers of paint. Thanks for pointing me to his work.

Those are brilliant, as well, aren’t they? They’ve got a hell of a lot of energy for the subject matter!
January 29, 2026 at 12:39 AM
These are great… will be looking into him and his work.
