SecDef authorizes “voluntary departure” of dependents in the Middle East, citing rising tensions with Iran.

Reports that all nonessential personnel will also be removed from Baghdad.

Not ideal.

US military authorizes voluntary departure of troops' dependents across Mideast, officials say

LAPD’s Chief says they still have no idea what the military’s mission in LA is.

There are no open deconfliction channels between the military and local law enforcement.

Having multiple groups with weapons operating in the same area with no way to communicate is fucking insane.

For the first time in 20 years, the International Atomic Energy Agency has passed a resolution of noncompliance against Iran, claiming they are not adhering to their nonproliferation obligations.

In response, Iran says they will up enrichment.

Not good.

I think all they’ve really managed to do this week is encourage more people to turn out for the No Kings protests.

Being underwater on every issue before July is pretty impressive.

Israel has declared a nationwide state of emergency and is reportedly striking multiple locations in Iran

Looks like this first wave of Israeli attacks was focused on air defenses, and individual homes of scientists and regime officials.

Some social media reports of a second wave beginning, but I haven’t seen confirmation of that so far.

Couple things here:

1. With this target deck, and the rumors that Mohammad Bagheri was also targeted, this isn’t just an attempt to dismantle their nuclear program - it’s pretty clearly a regime decapitation strike

2. Iran’s response may be delayed, but will likely be *massive*

Fair, but you also never saw the full might (even the conventional might) of the US military deployed in any of those conflicts.

And Israel has already kicked the door in and destroyed their air defenses. B-2s and B-52s would have a field day.

Look, Iran.

I know you think we were involved, and you’re probably right, but those B-2s aren’t hanging out at Diego Garcia for funsies and this dude is crazy.

You REALLY don’t want those problems.

Bibi actually openly called for regime change in his speech today. In the conversations I’m having, Israel feels like they have a legitimate shot at forcing regime change, but I’m skeptical they can do either one without US support

Based on their target deck, they’re more focused on the regime now.

I absolutely agree that Noem *should* be impeached, but I worry that the Dems going down that road would be nothing more than an exercise in political theater. It would likely piss off a lot of voters, too.

Johnson would never allow an impeachment vote, anyway.

In a normal world, I would tell you yes. In this ridiculous dystopian hellscape we’re currently in, I don’t know that there is a bridge too far for the GOP.

They’re hammering the WH on immigration - particularly keeping farmers, hospitality workers, etc. - but still unwilling to do it publicly.

It’ll hurt his feelings for sure.

I don’t think it will give the GOP any courage to push back on Trump, but they’re already terrified of losing their seats, and this is going to make that fear even worse.

I think it’s likely that we’ll end up at war with Iran, especially if they follow through with the threat to attack US military bases in the Middle East.

We’ve already coordinated and assisted with every phase of this operation - we just haven’t dropped any bombs yet.

I think that ship has sailed. I saw people calling for diplomacy today as the missiles were falling on both countries and I just shook my head.

We might get to deescalation in a couple of days/weeks, but both sides are furious right now.

The 2026 midterms are our most likely way out of this, yes.

Outside from a medical emergency, voting is our only legal way out of this.

If it gets bad enough, we could theoretically go on a massive strike and shut the economy down, but I question whether or not the American people would do it.

I don’t think they’re trying to get CA to secede, no - there’s really no legal provision for that to even happen.

I don’t blindly trust *any* politician, but I think Newsom has handled this crisis well. The speech he gave the other night was masterful.
