One of the best Anniversary statements I’ve ever read. It does what so many fail (or refuse to do): honors those lost on 9/11 as well as those lost in the aftermath, from illness, state violence, and hate. It reflects the fact that all of these deaths are part of the same grief.
We remember 9/11 not only on this day, but every day—in the empty seats at our tables, in the loved ones still suffering from illness, in a skyline forever changed.

I worked at the 9/11 Museum for six years, creating and maintaining the exhibition that remembers the lives of the 2,983 victims of 9/11 and the 1993 bombing. The Islamophobia being flung at Zohran Mamdani is the worst I’ve ever seen — and that’s saying something.
