Remember when Jaskier’s hair matched his character?

I generally prefer longer hair on men, but whatever they’re doing with him post-S1 has looked like he’s emulating Jared Leto / starting a cult / getting handsy at a party.

An absolute ponce going by the handle Ember Aegle posts on Bluesky: I have an MA in English Lit. If you learn about literature from reading tvtropes, you have not learned anything about literature. Tvtropes doesn't engage with anything, not really. It puts things in little boxes so you can conveniently use them without ever having to engage with any actual ideas.

I’m sure I’ve seen this view before, but it’s not THE view we see.
The White House complex, with (from left to right) the west wing, Oval Office, rose garden, north and south lawns on either side of the main building which is listed as White House, Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, the east wing, and beyond that the treasury department. Notably, the main building is referred to as the White House while the rest is not.

I don’t mean to disagree with this sentiment, and obviously I’m not on team demolition (unless we really doing a full historic slaveholder purge, then… that’s a whole other issue) but in terms of the average American… the White House is just the center bit—we can’t even see that there are side bits.
The White House. Front and back views, which I guess are north and south views since the attached parts that are completely obscured by the framing and foliage are the east and west wings. These are the views we see on the news all the time. These are the views we saw on the west wing tv show, though it turns out the west wing largely took place off to the side. The Oval Office isn’t even in this center bit that looks like a plantation house.

Kirk in the animated series, he’s facing away from us, so we mostly see the back of his yellow (gold, green, let’s have this argument another time) uniform shirt which has written on it in large thick letters all caps: Kirk is a jerk.

I’d love for cnn to do a journalism and say facts instead of cowering behind “democrats say”. My dudes, just say they’re breaking the law, that’s the factual reporting. You don’t need to report that someone said it’s raining outside when you can verify that yourself by… journalisming.

Not to “both-sides” this but I’ve already seen pro-practical folks say “it’ll be no cg” and pro-cg folks say “he’s lying” (at least everyone is unified in praising his anti-AI stance) but no, it’s better to build as much practically as you can… and then he’ll supplement that with a fuckton of CG. 🤷‍♀️

Every time I see this incredible level of detail in one of these shows, while I’m absolutely in awe of the incredible work, I don’t believe it for an instant as the background for the dialogue and interactions we see. Mainly it makes me think about these jokers.
The characters from Pooh Corner redesigned to be all textured which in this case is all absurd levels of muscle fibers. Just absolutely jacked Pooh and friends.

Top of saucer. The raised strip connecting the impulse deck to the bridge module. It’s like a mall or conference center with lots of mezzanines in the game. It’s not addressed in the films, though I’d presume based on the exterior glowy bits that it’d be tech not open space, but… game. 🤷‍♀️

Art for Star Trek Generations, though I don’t think it’s seen on screen or at least not legibly so if it is. A painting meant to be an ancestor of Jean-Luc Picard wearing a monster maroon complete with the ribbed collar (which was a thing in Kirk’s era but not in Picard’s youth, he just wore the monster maroon sans collar) with an old constitution class refit in the background, but it’s clearly just Patrick Stewart with a mustache, making it the Sam Kirk of Picards, so to speak, but more importantly: he looks fly as fuck, like sit on his face good.

At least that prototype wasn’t as bad as this one from more or less the same batch. Having the collar be the same as the body of the top but interrupted by the shoulders is awful. Color on the collar works if the entire rest of the top is a different color, but only just. The better choice is black.
Star Trek Geverations prototype uniform that was discarded in favor of the bizarre TNG and DS9 mix and match but that mix and match was still much better than this ugly uniform. Unlike the one in the quoted post which features the department color for the torso and arms with black pants and black yoke and collar, this one has a black yoke with a department color collar, in this case yellow/gold. (They both have a weak approximation of the flap from the monster maroons, but since it’s on a shirt that’s tucked in at the waist it makes even less sense than it did there, but more importantly, doesn’t look cool like it did there.)

It’s one of those details that just needs to be what it is for it to feel proper (for me). The, according to this diagram, the “pre-stage flux tuner assembly” is another. My various versions have changed lots of elements, but if I change those two tiny elements too much it loses the whole vibe.
Kinda ok but not very good TOS orthographic enterprise side view with labels on lots of bits.

Man, even Probert cheats how chiseled in those bits on the secondary hull in TOS are. He alllmmmost makes them look smooth flush.

It’s funny how many versions of the TOS E (not to mention the reimagining like SNW) change this but to be not chunked out and not flat, just smoothed/rounded hull.
But of an orthographic front view of the original series Enterprise, specifically of the engineering hull, so you can see most of the deflector dish. Awkwardly circled are the inset bits on the side and bottom. If you were looking at the side, this bit is where the pennant starts on that flat bit.

So, in the end, The Acolyte was bad. It had a lot going for it, from the ideas at play to the fantastic cast, but man did the writing & editing ultimately collapse under itself over and over. That said, it’s still miles better than Kenobi and far more interesting and watchable than Solo or TRoS.
Renew The Acolyte for more of our man Manny, seen here being nude and hot, with puppy dog eyes and a weasely mustache that somehow he’s making work. Was the show bad? Yes, a half baked mess. But would I rather watch them try to make this cast and these ideas work than more Mando or Ahsoka or Kenobi or Jesus Christ the Book of Boba Fett? Yes, a thousand times yes.

People talk about the puppets and stuff from the 70s/80s not holding up (mostly incorrectly) but the light draping of the fur is more of a bts of the era giveaway to me.
Wookie but he’s jacked, big muscle arms obvious under the fur. Lego Chewbacca with a dummy thicc ass. A cheap wookie costume, exaggerating how the hair just hangs off them limply.
