Sure but I think the appeal of Substack was going to one place to read the blogs you like and maybe discover others. Patreon and Kofi are not built for that.

Those aren't really blogging sites.

Okay, overall-- an unfortunately all too common scenario of business owners who can't bring themselves to delegate and who don't know how to run a business, leading to unprofessional behavior. I hate that this keeps happening.

There's probably more I'm forgetting. Like I said, it's been awhile! I remember reading a lot at graphicartistsguild.org, maybe poke around there for more info.

Since 1967, we’ve advocated for the industry and offered robust resources for graphic artists intent on growing their businesses.

Also very important: kill fees/clauses. If you or the client cannot continue the project, kill fees ensure you are paid *something* for your time and whether the client still has any rights to the work.

Short version, you want to include:

Client (Name) agrees to pay You (artist/s) $Amount for [description of work.] If you're breaking payments up, elaborate the schedule and payment due dates.

Also spell out what rights & licenses the client is purchasing with the artwork and how long those last.

Unfortunately I haven't done commissions in years so I don't know of a good hub for advice and sample contracts. Feel free to link if you know a reputable site.

I got this drilled into me as a young artist hearing horror stories of the Tokyopop Rising Stars of Manga debacle. (TLDR they screwed a lot of artists not just out of money but the copyright to their work), as well as hanging out in professional illustrator circles.

Hell yeah, $8 is like, half the cost of a takeout meal at this point

I was about to ask what the contract situation was, especially re: funds this person stole for a fucking car. 🤯

The violence has mostly been aimed at Democrats but not all of it, as we saw with the Charlie Kirk shooting.

We also previously saw MAGA protesters show up with a lot of guns outside state offices, and a plot to kidnap (and probably kill) the Gov of Michigan was foiled.
