lol god i know you know but it really does drive me crazy. everybody gets glib and off the cuff in their criticisms of works in other fields by other kinds of artists, but when it comes to their own expect it to be buffered with deep knowledge of the field and compliment sandwiched, at minimum

it's the kinda thing with 'defund the police' too. all these battles about 'it was a bad slogan' ignoring the fact that it's not really about winning elections and debates over the course of years, decades, it's trying to force power to actually *directly confront* the issue instead of dodging it
