GNU/Linux has improved a lot in the recent years. Flatpaks make it much easier to install software and if you have a laptop supports Linux then it’s an easy switch. GNU/Linux is a perfect OS, it’s just the greedy companies that hate user freedom.

They’re a bliss to use but when you start getting issues they’re worse than GNU/Linux. For example, My OneDrive breaks every other day and I cannot upload or download the files that belong to me. This is when you start caring about freedom. GNU/Linux puts the user in control.

That’s sarcasm because only an idiot would compile his OS instead of actually using it.

A much beginner friendly distro would be Linux Mint. Go for it, Cinnamon is very windows-like.

Non free software will have problems running on Linux. Some adobe and Microsoft office versions never work. You have to look into free alternatives.

It’s not painful. You’re doing it wrong. There’s stuff like Secure boot, bit locker and tpm you need to disable first. Move to a beginner distro like Linux Mint. Ubuntu is not a free distro.

All Linux distros now come with software stores built into them. There isn’t a lot to learn either, you just need to know how to use Google.
