#UWJ201 317 in lecture on Monday we went over Journalism Ethics. One of the points was to act independently and to avoid conflicts of interest. If Minnesota Twins writer Dan Hayes is a Chicago White Sox fan, does that count as a conflict of interest? Or is that just a smart move?

#UWJ201 317 in discussion yesterday we talked about the difference in Central vs Peripheral routes when running political campaigns. There wasn’t conclusive evidence when looking into which is more effective when swaying voters. So my question is, which route is more effective in swaying voters?

In lecture this week we talked about the News finds me perception. I want to know what the percentage of the population actually has this perception bc I am not ashamed to admit that i am part of it #UWJ201 317

Today in lecture ProWag spoke about how people tend to respond to content in a higher manner when they don’t agree with what is being posted. (hostile Media Effect) my question is, why do people feel more inclined to break down people with disagreement than uplift them in agreement? #UWJ201 #317

#UWJ201 317. We listened to a Ted Talk in class today about algorithmic bias. The woman in the video discussed algorithmic bias, and how people rarely search past the first page of whatever search engine. Is there a study out there that shows data about people’s search habits in reference to topics?

Right now in #UWJ201 we are watching Super Bowl ads to explore the power of influence in commercialization. My favorite ones are the snickers commercials that are using humor to implement the idea they are trying to convey. I love it 317

HorseRace reporting can be very beneficial to the pre-educated. But do the negatives outweigh the positives? Only a small percentage of voters know who their stances on policies align with, if the vast majority of people don’t know who to vote for, doesn’t that create more polarization? #UWJ201 317

I catch myself talking about products that I feel would be nice for my apartment, and then when I go to do homework, I find my ads telling me to buy a new Brita. I’m glad that the reading from the Harvard Business Review that is assigned for tomorrow talks about this exact thing. #UWJ201 317
