I don’t. With how high of a percentage of the conservative wing primarily watching Fox News, and not nearly as high of a percentage with NYT or CNN, I don’t see a way that that is true. #UWJ201 317

#UWJ201 317 the school will most likely be ridiculed but not blamed. The school is following the rules. Although the parents will pin it against the school, the school can just refer them to the Constitution. But at the same time, a teacher’s protective instinct will probably allow them to break too

I asked a very similar question. When we looked at it in class, we analyzed the Nixon campaign in ‘68, Nixon used Central most and won, but when we looked at Peripheral for Susan Crawford, she won. Odds are we were missing something… #UWJ201 317

If they are funny or if they are ridiculously low priced compared to what I am used to. To me, they really need to stand out unless they are created by someone that I care about. #UWJ201 317

I would also think that it is the other way around. According to prior lectures, you would think that folks in a news desert would be more prone to believing what they have access to, but in reality, the high educated that have access to greater resources have the choice in what they want to believe

While trying to find coping mechanisms is sometimes healthy, believing in conspiracies that probably aren’t true is not a healthy method of coping. Finding facts while they may hurt more, is much more effective than believing something that isn’t true. #UWJ201 317

I love that you made that connection bc that’s not something that I caught. I agree 100%

I think bias definitely is affected by brand/company. For example, there are very polar sides to the Apple vs Android debate. And political parties are technically brands and there are DEFINITELY polarizing sides of that argument #UWJ201 317

Great question Owen. It’s not easy to measure how much bias has grown recently, but we can for sure say that it has grown by a lot. When the important people in organizations take polarizing stances, the follower will begin to take a stance as well, and it ends up growing exponentially. #UWJ201 317

A little bit for sure. I know that I could decide to watch romance movies instead of action or sports movies but the problem is, it’s everywhere. There are definitely ways to ignore it but the fact that it is everywhere and anywhere makes it difficult to ignore. #UWJ201 317

When covering protests there are for sure ways to cover them more equally than they are being covered now. The problem is, for the vast majority of people in the U.S, that just isn’t interesting because it’s peaceful. Which is why it frequently ends up being the violence that gets pushed #UWJ201 317

In the case of the Herald, in the sports section specifically, yes. We are supposed to tailor to the audience of Wisconsin. In other areas no we are supposed to be as neutral as possible. For example, if you write and expose your political opinion in the editorials, you can’t write in politics sect.

So far in my short experience as a writer for the Herald, I can confirm that people pursue the stories that they think will get the most buzz. #UWJ201 317

Framing takes an innocent interview of a politician and turns it into political propaganda because they say 1 thing that sounds bad out of context. It can also be used as a good to market things that look bad, into making them look good. #UWJ201 317

I don’t know if that’s possible. I feel as though the people that use apps like TikTok and X would riot if the app changed their algorithms to display relevant political information. Although it probably should happen, people will just find other apps I fear. #UWJ201 317

It’s a fair point to bring up for sure. I think part of the reason that people feel that local news is more trustworthy is because it mentions things that you feel are more relevant like the winter carnival. I don’t care about the beta chi party in Tuscaloosa bc it’s in Tuscaloosa. #UWJ201 317

#UWJ201 317 many will say that it’s ethical, but there is a very thin tightrope to walk on. To get your foot in the door, paying for a few followers can’t be a big deal. But buying the support of millions of Americans is a whole different story
