Finally putting my studio back together! Metalsmith tip for those with limited space and commitment issues: Bolt your rolling mill to a piece of wood, then clamp that to the workbench. Can be moved when needed

Your sweet little cushions could possibly be channel set (which I've never tried) or set with double-sided prongs, which would be tricky since they're so small. Not sure if these will be of much use, but it's all I've found so far.

Thank you 🙂 Made the most of this dark dusty little corner 🖤 But I’ve spent the past several weeks removing old water-damaged paneling and cleaning up and expanding the space. Feels so different. Will be healthier in the long run

Thanks for your input everyone! This is what I’ve learned: Use 80 grit sandpaper to thoroughly remove the stupid epoxy coating. And soak the whole head in warm water, not just the faces, for about 20-25 minutes. The glue actually softened up this time, unlike past attempts. Bingpot!

Hmm. Interesting. Got mine from Rio years ago and no matter what I do it always leaves marks. Just went to their website and read that the one they sell has an epoxy coating, not shellac like back in the old days. I wonder if that’s the problem?

You guys, I’ve had no luck conditioning my rawhide mallet. I’ve beat it on concrete corners, soaked it in warm water, filed, and even scored it with a utility knife to help break the shellac but it’s still hard as a rock and mars my metal. Anyone have any tips or success stories to share?

The light switch is no longer dangling from the ceiling thanks to this lovely new post! And I sanded and applied danish oil to the old knotty pine paneling. Also, the wood under the stair was not salvageable, so that was all cut away and new supports have been added

Thanks for sharing! I recently heard that art may be exempt from tariffs because it’s currently protected under the first amendment? Please note: I have not yet dug in and fact checked this

My fingers are worn and my hands are big. But in addition to glamour shots, I'll often include photos of the ring on the inside of my hand, which is smoother than the wrinkly knuckle side. I find having photos with fingers helps people get a sense of how the piece will look in context. Roughly:

Many of us start off in whatever corner we can carve out. I moved into a basement that leaks when it rains, but I'm happy to have it. Do what you can to separate the space, and keep dreaming 😊

Don’t go! I was just thinking about you while looking at my lovely fish and thinking about the tariffs. Because there’s no algorithm here, you have to engage to get engagement. Reach out and comment! Share other people’s works! Bluesky needs artisans like you x

As if trying to make a living as an artisan isn’t always challenging enough, we now have tariffs on top of the rising cost of raw materials and the steady decline in consumer discretionary spending

Sweet woodruff. Woodland native. Edible. Took a chance and bought a few half-dead plants from a local nursery at the end of last season, steeply discounted. Quite pleased now

Love those little aliens! A friend shared a small bit of a chartreuse ‘golden’ bleeding heart with me last fall and it was the first thing to pop up this spring. Cheerful and vigorous
