Another sign of the transformative nature of Christ-taking the worst fact about your life (or death) and turning it into the best.

I wonder how many will die and suffer as a result? It feels as though we’re heading back to a time before science as progress.

I’m glad it isn’t a miniseries. I wouldn’t want people to think the Catholic Church can be corrupt!

Serious question: is proof necessary for the average Catholic? If I fall in love with the beauty of some Catholic aesthetic isn’t that sufficient for beginning my relationship with Christ? I might be one of those Catholics making that mistake.

I mean if you can’t fail and still be a Christian I don’t think there’d be any

So you’re certainly a more accomplished writer than I am, and idk if you want advice but I often struggled with these issues. write the darn thing. you’ll be able cut aggressively in the edit so that themes you didn’t intend but are really there emerge. And then lean into them.

It may simply be he realized that BlueSky was not an opportunity for charitable behavior for him.

The ability to think is the single best life skill academia can impart on a person. And almost any class can teach it, but precious few do.
June 17, 2025 at 1:52 PM
But for example, seeing things from another viewpoint sharpens negotiation. Ever want to buy a car or home? It’ll come in handy. Ever need to talk about wedding plans with in-laws? Useful. What about the ability to smell bullshit? Teacher lying to you about paper not being graded-now you know.

I’d frame in a way that they are getting more out of the class as a result. Of course it takes more work, but it pays off with [list of skills and examples of them helping in the real world]. Definitely some who won’t care, but that was going to be true anyway. Those that could care will benefit.

I’m not an academic so take with a grain of salt-but a reason not to use AI in a classroom is that you are teaching students how to think, which requires practice. You’re also letting them develop a unique voice. Without actually writing neither thing is possible.

Our whole country’s relationship with taxation is skewed, even more so than at the time of the Revolution. We could and should have a great many things, but unfortunately our ethos is that tax is fundamentally theft, and not a good to be used for the common purpose.

IANAL either but worked in Local Government Accounting for awhile. Shall was always given to mean must, a duty to be fulfilled.

While I don’t disagree as such, posts like this always have a bit of…thank God I’m not like THAT sinner about them. I hope God is merciful to these folks-I’ll need the same mercy.

At what point does it become basically sour cream…mmm…sour cream

My dad was in law school at the time, and he is still angry-he feels if we had prosecuted Nixon we wouldn’t have this trouble with Trump now. I disagree, but I understand how one could draw that conclusion. Ultimately though, I don’t think people like Trump think about the consequences.
May 21, 2025 at 8:08 PM
Which, maybe is what is needed, but I’d want a solution to that problem, first. I think of the success of Truth and Reconciliation committees in South Africa, the mercy showed much of Germany and Japan post war, and the pardon of Nixon of examples that allowed politics to continue.

While I think on some level justice demands this-I’m concerned what happens to the electorate if such a thing happens. If we impeach these criminals (as they are) many of those who voted for them will take this as a type of violence to their political will. At that point, I think the system breaks.

Not having a personality for a character allows the player to impute the personality of their choice onto the character. No surprise that many favorite video game characters are ones that have little to no personality.

with in a kind of shadow or vague image of having conversations with friends from other majors. The results with these are somewhat mixed-in the Spanish version in particular I struggle with the speed of speech consistently speeding up.
May 12, 2025 at 2:41 AM
On the topic. For example, when speaking Spanish I ask it to speak to me at 4 yo level- and slowly, but when speaking to me about entomology I ask it to speak to me at a college educated-level with little stem background-much more quickly and with an accent closer to the people I went to school 2/

So, I haven’t used it to create a professorial ‘team’ yet-I have no need of this. But I’ve started in the paidgpt version having it branch off into different personalities when discussing certain topics. I ask it to alter its accent, speed of speech, and educational level of proficiency depending 1/
