A normal human person 🍁🍁🍁

Certainly not a deranged sentient cookie. Definitely a normal, suddenly patriotic Canadian.
It's Eminem, Macklemore, or nothing for us mayonnaise folk

Yeah, the crab bucket allegations are hard to beat sometimes.

I was among those speculating at the time that the implicit narrative of the article was harsher on you than the truth but if anything it seems I was *still* underestimating the degree. An object lesson in critical reading I suppose.

Plus the collective coordination problem. I would really like to know when it's safe to vote my values instead of strategically against conservatives but that ain't how the dynamics really work.

As others have told, this is indeed a thing. Some people believe the best move is to bring a set with notably powerful outlier cards you can snap up and pass an overall weaker pack along, but for fun purposes there are sets that better support a random card pool with mana fixing, etc.

Hype cycle becomes a backlash cycle when a thing gets recommended to an audience for whom it isn't a good fit but it *seems* like it would be, cause if it was an obvious bad fit they wouldn't give it the time of day

I agree– Jay comes off as badly not equipped for the situation, but the extent to which she was actually responsible for any material harm is pretty unclear.

I don't mind it to be honest. I wouldn't pay for a full year subscription because the content only occasionally draws my interest, so a buck here and there for the big hitters is a good way to support this specific kind of work

So they try to negotiate down and the huge expectations gap leads to the story as written.

In this case it seems like SJG came in offering to fill a gap in production know-how. Good idea in principle, but then I assume they confront the economics of indie TTRPG publishing and realize paying out Acosta, Harris, et. al. as co-creators instead of hired contributors is negative ROI.

Messy alright. I don't know how often snafus like this happened in the old days, but it seems like the crowdfunding era has brought with it a huge uptick in stories of scrappy creatives getting in over their heads and trainwrecking projects with a lot of good ideas and excitement behind them.

I like it but god where do you find players that will actually roleplay at this level. I play in exactly one table like that so I know it can happen but almost everyone I can get to my tables is either tactical heroic fantasy-pilled or just lacking confidence to take character swings

It's well-justified fear, don't get me wrong. They will shoot you in the street if you give them an excuse, but trying not to give them excuses isn't exactly heroic restraint that will be necessarily be rewarded by the democratic system correcting itself in 2026/2028.
