In preparation for her role as Linda McCartney, I hope Saoirse Ronan will read the appropriate chapter in my book OFF THE GROUND as it will prove far more useful than anything by *** ******, ****** ****** or ****** ******. 😉 www.theguardian.com/film/2025/oc...

While we’re celebrating the anniversary of Sonic Youth’s Washing Machine, here’s a reminder that the founding members of Mogwai used to repeatedly listen to The Diamond Sea, backwards as well as forwards. @mogwai.scot @plasmatron.bsky.social

Might’ve gone in a bit hard on that front if I’m honest. Argh. 90s. Help. 😆🤪😬😵‍💫

Thanks James. Our chat was on my mind with this one.

"Oasis are back from the dead. They’ve resurrected their old support act... History repeats itself; first as tragedy and second as farce. Big pungent farce, of the strength Jim Royle would expel after a particularly sprouty Xmas dinner." @spinal-bap.bsky.social 💯👞🥧

The Verve singer returns, but he's treading water and long out of ideas, finds J.R. Moores

Thanks! Tea spitting is the sweet spot.

UH OH! I’ve reviewed Lovin’ You, the new Richard Ashcroft album, for @thequietus.com Don’t tell me it’s a mean-spirited or bad tempered write-up, however true that might be. Sometimes a writer just has to lash out. thequietus.com/quietus-revi...

That “Most people” line made me laugh.

My interview with the frontperson of an indie band who’d been out the night before and kept repeating the questions back to me, to discover my opinions on the mooted subjects, as if that would’ve made for serviceable copy.

I don’t know lots about filmmaking but by at least halfway through I was thinking (and repeating) to myself “This is just GREAT CINEMA.” 🎦

CDs were cool because you could pry the tray out of the jewel case and sometimes there would be art or something hidden under there.

Ten years since The Icarus Line’s All Things Under Heaven had me slapping myself in the face on a noisy train. That’s the benchmark for a 10/10 album, right? drownedinsound.com/releases/190... @drownedinsound.org
Album Review: The Icarus Line - All Things Under Heaven
The Icarus Line have only gone and made their most evil-sounding record to date.

In defense of Taylor Swift...what's the best 12th album anyone has ever made?

If I remember correctly Inherent Vice meandered (though I did enjoy it) whereas this one rattles along.

“We were trying to work out the best way to make it unplayable: a blank disc, scratched, sticky, or putrid, with a hole right through it to break the stylus, or with frequencies that would destroy the stereo, etc”.

Regarding The Beta Band’s setlists. They should be playing Dry The Rain last. No further songs. No encore afterwards. The crowd, as one, singing the refrain long after the musicians have finished it, as everyone’s leaving the venue, on the bus/train/tube/tram/walk home, etc. Not rocket science.

Once the original two dozen vinyl variations have been shifted, yes.

Plus points to The Life Of A Showgirl: the album is relatively short and it does not involve anyone from The National.

Just seen someone complaining about Jimmy Carr performing at the Riyadh Comedy Festival because the comedian “always came across as principled.” 🤔
