I’m in Canada. The US is on the other side of the river. Too close!

For some time now I have sought comfort in animal pictures and videos. Watching the amusing antics and unexpected intelligence of pets gave me solace, and the kindness of people rescuing wild creatures restored my faith in humanity. Now that much of this content is AI generated it no longer works.

For those who think that a republic is safer than a constitutional monarchy. Charles III isn’t even allowed to express an opinion.

I am a Canadian and I won’t buy US products, but we are well served by BTPB. I have doubled my monthly contribution.

American friends,
I used to listen to NPR while commuting by car, to learn your language.

Public media that reports the truth & stays independent is critical now.

Are you a regular contributor? If not, will you consider helping?

For years he has been complaining that other NASA countries aren’t spending enough on their militaries. I wonder if that one will bite him in the ass?

What the actual f*ck!?
🧵Happy new year. No I'm not gonna give it a rest...bc Democracy. The official homeland security acct posted this on X (yes I sourced it). To be clear, this would be ~1/3 of the US population (what would that do to the economy) and would be inclusive of MANY US citizens.

Well, that one is over. Can 2026 possibly be any worse? Good luck world! Especially USA, and Ukraine, and Gaza, and Venezuela, and Somalia, and Yemen, and Greenland, Oh, and us, Canada. I missed a few but you get my drift.

When my children were small we always made sure that the only presents from Santa (aka Father Christmas) could fit in a large sock. No Santa gifts under the tree. If my kid got a bicycle from Santa and someone else’s got play-doe, what message does that send?

Yesterday someone suggested that I volunteer to help the homeless because it brings me closer to God. Why can’t it be because it brings me closer to humanity? Why do Christians always assume that only they have charity?

Marigold has a vet appt. next month. I brought the carrier up early so she can get used to it. It worked out even better that expected.

What a lot of people on the internet don't seem to realise is that a vital part of reading between the lines is also reading the actual lines.

What shocks me is not that the approval rating of the current POTUS is “only” 35% (or 41%, depending what you read). But that more than a third of US citizens still think that he is doing a good job.

I can only hope that the only reason that they haven’t yet exercised the 25th is because they are working on impeachment for treason (article II sec.4) thereby getting rid of the lot of them.

Me, dozing on the couch with the radio playing. Loud music, annoying ads, wash over me. Then the sound of a whimpering baby come on and I am instantly awake.

I was always told that the advantage of Capitalism was that competition fosters innovation and efficiency. Without serious competition Capitalism’s advantages shrink to the ability of a few people to make a lot of money (at the expense of everyone else).
Five corporations control 90% of the US media market.

Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today.

Four giants control 80% of meat processing.

A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry.

The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

She was a lovely person. I stayed at their house for a couple of nights when her sister, Claire (now sadly also deceased), and I took a post high school road trip.
So sad to hear of the passing of the magnificent actress Pauline Collins... fantastic as Shirley Valentine. Here she is advertising Maxwell House here in 1983 with husband John Alderton... RIP Pauline

Mike Johnson is obstructing the US Constitution. President Lyndon Johnson was sworn in by Sarah Hughes, a US District Court Judge for Northern District of Texas. President Calvin Coolidge was sworn in by his own father – a notary public and justice of the peace.

Swear in Adelita Grijalva. Now.

I don’t understand why nobody has brought a motion to vacate against Mike Johnson. I know it can’t pass until the house is back, but it would be symbolically significant.
