This is a cool idea and despite my near-certainty that I'll eventually miss a day and feel bad, I'm going to give it a shot.

Get to know my game taste in 365 games!

For 2025, I'm going to post every day about a game that has been meaningful to me. Might not be the "best" games, or even my "favorites," but they're all ones that have stuck with me in one way or another, in rough ascending order of impact.

This might be the worst ICE video yet, because it’s literally random dudes hanging around, and then a bunch of heavily armed thugs running them down completely out of nowhere, because they’re brown. It’s a nightmare that would have seemed excessive in Jim Crow. Everyone in America should see this.

ICE is not only chasing down every random brown person in Chicago, they have a cameraman following them to film this for social media. Cruelty and inhumanity as content.

280. FF4: The After Years

Now it's common for Square Enix to spin off its Final Fantasies into a thousand properties, but when this WiiWare game hit it was still very rare. I hopped in looking forward to more adventures with beloved characters and got, well, a kind of slapdash game.

In a perverse way bluffing big about this also means they can’t really follow through. If they actually went through with it everyone would hold them responsible for whatever long-term pain it causes. They’re announcing as loudly as possible that they’re going to break shit on purpose.

Really feels like the whole “we’re openly and giddily announcing how excited we are to permanently fire federal employees” thing is backfiring. They’ve created a narrative where everyone understands that they like the shutdown and are excited about it, which makes “the mean Dems did this” fizzle.

This is a good point. The White House is making a new threat right after it already made another threat, and both of them seem to be empty.

We're now hearing threats about withholding post-shutdown pay. They first threatened widespread new firings? So why hasn't that happened. As I noted last week despite all the threats none of the firing machinery had actually been started up. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/dont-...

This "I wish you loved X as much as you hate Trump" thing she keeps repeating reminds me of Rubio's "President Obama knows EXACTLY what he's doing" thing. These dopes really settle on a turn of phrase they think is super clever and then use it over and over, making it obviously rehearsed

Before you couldn't throw a rock at Steam without hitting a thousand indie metroidvanias, it was actually novel to find one on WiiWare. This was an early taste of devs paying homage to classics, and I really enjoyed the commitment of it.

The administration is so obsessed with sticking it to Trump's political enemies that they don't realize that sending ripped camo dudes to arrest a 64-year-old bureaucrat is going to look silly, not tough.

Oh I’ll get to 11 but agreed, it was the right way to approach a retro throwback. I really enjoyed it and I wish they’d make another, or maybe a new MMX with that same philosophy

278. Mega Man 9

I had moved on from managing a Mega Man site by this point but I still try to play all the releases to this day. Mega Man 9 was the first attempt at a retro throwback when those were all the rage. (See New SMB, Sonic 4). It played like a ROM hack and was way too hard.

The originator of the "toys to life" gimmick was actually, honestly, a pretty good Diablo Lite. I really enjoyed it and got into collecting the figures, and then later sort of became the go-to person to write about these types of games. Drobot 4ever.

I'm going to sound down on Nintendo twice in a row, but as someone who loved WarioWare I didn't love the transition to a party game, and it still doesn't really work for me when it tries to go in that direction. I get how they got there, though.

I think Zelda started to lose me here. I still enjoyed Twilight Princess and I like a lot of things about it, but more than others it felt like it was built by a committee trying to appease a market. I prefer my Nintendo to chase its own weirdness.
