In the case of the J6 pardon recipients, they were actually charged with something, so it would make sense to determine who fell into the class and notify them all, but I genuinely don't know if they get a physical pardon letter or the DOJ just notes the pardon in all their cases. Genuinely curious.

Specifically thinking of Carter pardoning people who didn't honor the draft during Vietnam, which was a huge group. I don't know if they were all sent an actual pardon or it was just a "yeah, don't prosecute anyone for this" message to the DOJ...

He definitely signed some pardons with the autopen, hard to tell about the Jan 6 ones, partially because I don't know how it works when a president pardons a group of people who fit a specific criterion and commutes the sentences of another, more violent group...

I'm sure previous administrations looked at it, decided that it's a good idea and then looked at the amount of effort it would take to do it properly and decided it wasn't the best use of their efforts and now Trump basically said "Surprise -- We just minted the last penny, now figure it out!"

It's a good idea and it's been kicking around in the US for some time (it was part of an episode of an episode of The West Wing that came out *25* years ago) and I'm glad that we're doing it. I just wish they had taken a while to build a timeline, figure out who it impacts and issue guidance.

My biggest fear is that someone talks him into getting rid of Daylight Savings Time or changing it without a lot of warning. Time skew breaks all kinds of things and a rapid change with some servers updated and some not would be a disaster.

I'll also add that I work in IT and I absolutely feel for anyone who has to figure out what tariffs people are going to pay when the regulations are unclear and change based on Trump's mood. It's got to be a disaster to understand, program and QA all of that with no warning.

Fortunately, Canada and Australia already did this (still use the penny in online transactions, round up or down when paying cash) and it's long overdue here, but putting some people on it and giving the software folks some time would have gone a long way.

Absolutely and I’m glad that we’re getting rid of this, but an administration that wasn’t a complete train wreck would have announced a date a few years in advance, done an education campaign, given point of sale and accounting software companies guidance, etc.

Just kind of wondering what kind of risk permit goes along with “likes to pick fights with Teamsters.” When we come back, we’ll ask an actuary who is currently breathing into a paper bag.

He’s surrounded by incompetent fools. My guess is that Kash is on the hot seat because Trump thinks (correctly) that he’s an insufferable dork who hasn’t moved quickly enough to put his opponents in prison.

Also on an 11 pro. Considered upgrading to the 17, knowing a marginally better camera and USB-C charging were the only compelling features and decided I could wait a few more years after Tim Cook decided to suck up to Trump.

The “attempted to remove the monitoring device with a soldering iron” part of the story appears to be true. Haven’t seen confirmation of Trump’s involvement yet.
