While writing There Is No Place for Us, what I wanted most was for readers to feel the fury I carried throughout my reporting—the outrage, the horror at what this country forces our neighbors to endure.

This review by @lilysanca.bsky.social says everything I hoped the book would convey, and more:
You’re Not Angry Enough About Homelessness in America
Homelessness is increasingly caused by soaring rents and low wages, not laziness or personal failures. The solution is strong government intervention to house everyone and to end landlords’ control ov...

This: "We ultimately need a real right to housing in this country. We need public and social housing for all... True abundance in housing means putting our country's resources to work for ordinary people and ending the dictatorship of private property over our lives."

That's quite a sentence, Mr James: “When you’re finished, squeezed dry and used up and you think the sack’s empty, you’re still appealed to, you still get touches and thrills, the idea springs up—out of the lap of the actual—and shows you there’s always something to be done."

Congratulations to contributing editor Marie Howe on winning the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry! AGNI first published Howe's work in 1985. Read "Gretel, from a Sudden Clearing" here!

Gretel, from a Sudden Clearing
No way back then, you remember, we decided, but forward, deep into a wood so darkly green, so deafening with birdsong I stopped my ears. And that high chime at night, was it really the stars, or some…

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

Senator Van Hollen lives this attitude – and planted hope in hopelessness.

Can we stop calling these atrocities "deportations." These people sold to El Salvadorian prisons were not deported. Deportation is a process that did not take place. They were rounded up and removed with no process. They were kidnapped, not deported.

I realized today that I am more powerful than Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk.

I can say Fuck You Donald Trump.

They may be richer but I am more powerful. And that is a trade I would make every single day.
