South India, Maharashtra are not greener or cleaner behaviorally or even economically when it comes to air quality than North India. Just luckier.

And a lot of it is just geography, rather than the greater environment consciousness of South Indians. The Himalayas lock in pollution, whereas the oceans help to dissipate pollution.

Plus these authenticity police are generally on dodgy factual grounds too. They just assume what was made in their home neighborhood is authentic and everything else is inauthentic.
I have a problem with this authentic nonsense. Like, what is authentic food and why is it important? If we were only into authentic food, whatever that is, 500 years ago, we would have no potatoes, chillies or tomatoes. Among other things.
