Some NYC RCV 2025 mayoral primary map updates from @thegraduatecenter.bsky.social. We've published our interactive map of round-by-round (non-batch-eliminated) vote patterns at www.urbanresearchmaps.org/nycrcv2025/ For each election district we display a vote transfer diagram for all candidates. “Historicizing the present robs it of its sense of inevitability, and restores its sense of human agency” ~Mike Wallace

Congrats to Mike Wallace, NYC historian extraordinaire, for a lifetime of work & his new book Gotham at War. Gotham Center @thegraduatecenter.bsky.social - what a rich legacy 🗽
Screen that reads “Historicizing the present robs it of its sense of inevitability, and restores its sense of human agency.” A quote by Pulitzer-prize winning New York City historian Mike Wallace. One of the few places he hasn’t yet visited via a connecting flight from Istanbul?

When do we get that apology from Maureen Dowd? cc @nytpitchbot.bsky.social
Idiotic NY Times opinion headline from Maureen Dowd: “Donald the Dove, Hillary the Hawk”

Flying there via Istanbul, or is that not the vibe anymore?

Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

Not a map. MTA itself calls it a "subway diagram".

At first I thought (among many other things) that Adams dropping out will make our election result map(s) less interesting but more focused (just 3 candidates). But he may still get enough votes to make a difference in some election districts. We’ll see!

To the voting booth on Election Day to vote for him because he’s still on the ballot and he was a protest vote to begin with

People who appreciate the intoxicating euphoria of reading from a real dictionary expertly hand-crafted by diligent human lexicographers.

Also. people who love the Oxford Comma more than some family members.

Who's the audience for a paper dictionary these days? (Serious question.)

Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin ✨ figured out what stars are made of ✨ when she was just 25. 🔭🧪

Her PhD thesis basically established the Harvard astro department — at a time when Harvard didn't officially allow woman students.

I wrote this little profile to mark the 100th anniversary of her thesis:

DOGE was a failure because its entire premise was flawed, and, on top of that, the people who ran and implemented it were both arrogant and ignorant.

He stood in front of the world at the UN today, and every other word out of his mouth was a lie. I’ll say it again, we’ve not been here before. An American President who lies as he breathes. It’s a terrible place to be. Shame on the media & everyone who’s normalized his lying and/or doesn’t care.

I was walking down a street in New York and I thought how lovely it was, with the trees and the light. Tried to take a photo and this came out. It’s incredible how blind we become to the ugliness of cars. They really do mess things up. Yet somehow we manage to filter them out.

You gotta read this, it will make your head spin. It has gotten kinda fashionable among centrists to downplay public corruption (Yglesias thinks the case against Adams was trumped up), but these permissive attitudes just lead to more serious corruption.

If you want to understand this Trump administration's rampant corruption ... you have to go back to Eric Adams, and how they made the case against him disappear.

I got a bunch of new details on this deep dive for @nytimes.com ...

This story builds in no small part on the incredible reporting of @thecity.nyc. A lot of what we know about the corrupt practices of Eric Adams' cronies is due to them.
