Texas Republicans have locked Democratic Rep. Nicole Collier inside the state house chamber and refuse to allow her to leave.

They are requiring Democrats to sign “permission slips” and have a police escort in order to leave the chamber, and she refuses to sign it.

I will vote for the first candidate who tells me they're going to make the biggest government possible. Reacher-sized agencies. Braun Strowman-level social benefits. Government so big it starts belching out National Parks and free healthcare. Chungus State.

Gene editing technology began by people studying salt marshes. Ozempic began by folks studying the venom of Gila Monsters. Support for basic science has empowered us to understand our world. Tethering it to applications health has transformed and saved countless lives.

This is such an astute observation
Republicans always agree with Democrats when it comes to their extremely narrow area of expertise, should they have one. It's key to understanding their view of the world.
Striking moment between GOP senators after Rand Paul questions childhood vaccines like Hep B vaccine

Cassidy, a gastroenterologist, defends Hep B vaccine — sparking back-and-forth with Paul, sitting next to him

Cassidy: A vaccine on day one of life prevents chronic hepatitis B 95% of the time.

To all my Kzoo peeps
if your rep is GOP, try the script below. it’s timed to 45 seconds with bail out points. you’ll get an intern. be polite.

different issues motivate these fools, but they can be manipulated. at the very least, it can’t hurt to try.

by all means, rewrite or improvise.🧵

Do you work in ecology/evolution? Did you do a study that is too small to publish as a full manuscript? Negative results? Part of a larger effort? Consider publishing in microPublication Biology: EEB!

This is also painfully true at an international level
If the economic damages of climate change are at least 6x > the cost of mitigation (and probably much more imho), why aren’t we acting like it?

Because it’s not about economics: it’s about injustice. Those who hold the balance of power + wealth are not those who bear the brunt of the impacts.
The economic commitment of climate change - Nature
Analysis of projected sub-national damages from temperature and precipitation show an income reduction of 19% of the world economy within the next 26 years independent of future emission choices.
