Surgical risk is constructed as high when gendering surgery does not match the patient's assigned sex, or if it does not reproduce western binarism, but low when it confirms or 'enhances' sex assigned at birth. Therefore, the medical risk is to the surgeon and western binarism, not the patient.

The Leeds Social Science Institute (LSSI) has relaunched as the Leeds Institute for Societal Futures (LISF), marking a new chapter committed to research and societal impact.

LSSI has been integral to the SSP research community, and LSFI bids to create many more opportunities
