This was definitely the fuel dump from the upper stage of the Chang Zheng 8A launch. The predicted trajectory has the upper stage passing over Germany at 2035 UTC on the path shown here.

The original poster implied that cover was the "Man of the Year" issue, which it was not. And you should actually read the articles before commenting about them. It's not hard, they're free online:

The issue on the right was from 1941, the one which named Hitler Man of the Year was this one with an allegory representing hate and suffering, and wrote "Hitler became in 1938 the greatest threatening force that the democratic, freedom-loving world faces today."

They still make projectors but there are other companies, for example many planetaria have projectors from GOTO of Japan, which has as long a history in the industry as Zeiss and a similarly good reputation.
