Company SJ delivers another deeply moving experience of the Irish lan(d)guage with #Beckett Sa Chreig: Guth Na mBan at @dublintheatrefest.bsky.social. This virtual “Walking the land” with Mná Na hÉireann is a journey through the grief and care of the everyday sublimated by cast, costume and camera.

It was with profound sadness that we learned today of the death of Manchán Magan. The Irish language has had few greater champions in the modern age, with such enthusiasm, empathy and deep cultural understanding. Go raibh maith agat, a Mhanchán, agus suaimhneas síoraí ort.

"Waiting for Godot is, as the saying goes, a play in which nothing happens, twice." Not a saying. It's Vivian Mercier's endlessly-quoted observation from 1956, so credit where credit is due. Happily Mercier's comma is correctly included.

Jacqueline du Pré breaks a string at the beginning of the final movement of the Dvorak Cello Concerto. The announcer calls it a "tragedy"; he didn't know the half of it!

After repairs, du Pré & Barenboim give a triumphant performance of the last movement!
