and just as it would have been in the '60s, ignoring the power of liberal churches (I'm biased, but I'd call them the churches that take Christ's message seriously) to organize and sustain liberatory movements in this country is a mistake members of the press make at the risk of their irrelevance.

Every few months there's a story called like EVIL GENIUS? STEVE BANNON'S SECRET MASTER PLAN TO RULE THE WORLD REVEALED and you look inside and it's always about how Steve Bannon called them up to tell them he's an evil genius and that he has a secret master plan to rule the world.
They'll flail more, threaten more, get more visibly authoritarian as we get closer and closer to the elections. And their flailing will not save them. They *don't have the force* to rule by force, and they can only rule by fear if we let ourselves fear them.

Trump, Miller, and the rest of the worms in Washington genuinely expected ordinary people to just go along with all of this. They expected courts to buy their lies, they expected states to knuckle under when federal funds got used as a leash, and they expected us to stay home.
