One challenge when writing a post apocalyptic story with a dragon companion in mind, is creating a threat to the dragon itself. So the story doesn't get boring. So instead of zombies I created these creatures that pretend to be human and they have guns

I wish there was a really good proper VR dragon riding game. Imagine an RPG that takes place on floating islands. You get by with your dragon companion. And there is a rich story about the bond you two share. Also you can pet and feed your dragon too. I'd kill for a game like that
