I mean.. I really don't know what to say with this. I didn't hate it like I did with the adventure.. but it's just kind of a bullshit arcade game. the only reason I'm not angry is because the dominus collection which has this game has difficulty settings which made the experience tolerable. like.. with the right settings it's fine but I just don't care about this one.

now look, i don't like looking at these older games many say have aged poorly and just echoing what everyone else is saying. but with this? even when trying to understand the time period, standards, and what have you of the time this game came out, and even with LIBERAL use of save states, I feckin hated this game. the gameplay is slow and frustrating, the music is boring and forgettable, the level design ranges from mediocre to utter dogwater, this game just fucking sucks man I'm sorry.

yeah i actually went back and finished this after dismissing it a couple years back. I've certainly warmed up to it but that doesn't mean i necessarily liked it. I do commend the ambition to create a non-linear progression, and the fact they made an explorable world from the skeleton of the original castlevania is really cool, and honestly the main issue is that besides the music, the game isn't really all that special or memorable. like even with a guide I can't say I liked it all that much, and how obtuse the game is puts a damper on it and makes a guide almost necessary unless you enjoy aimlessly wandering around and trying to decipher poorly translated npc dialogue. I don't regret finally finishing it but I'm not itching to play it again.

if I like castlevania 3 more than super castlevania 4, then I like this more than castlevania 3. I really like this game! I think this goes alongside rondo of blood for my favorite classic castlevania game. I did play the Japanese version simply because of the superior continue system but honestly the American version is still doable, I just have a skill issue haha.

oooooh man playing this in co-op was so fun, and admittedly i like this game more because of the hilarious and fun experience i had playing this with my brother and my friends. it's just a good ass beat em up, nothing much to it!

I tried playing this in full about.. one to two years ago I wanna say. I couldn't stand it, and the only way I beat it was on the famicom disk system version's easy mode. so what compelled me to try the nes version again? well for one, I had gone back and beaten castlevania 3 last year, I even documented it on that media thread. and I quite enjoyed it! I did use save states but I don't think that should detract from the fact I did play it and enjoy it. I played with save states here too, and I actually enjoyed this one. not as much as I did 3 but I found it a tough but thrilling ride nonetheless.

This is, what, my 4th playthrough of gen 9? It's so strange, I understood and agreed with so much of the criticism against this game, and yet, there's something about it that keeps me coming back. despite its flaws, this truly is a special game. one of those games where you know it's got problems out the wazoo but those high moments, are what make you love a game like this. I think there is a great framework here, with a lot of room for improvement sure. I think the story and characters are some of the best in any pokemon game, and I feel the endgame is genuinely one of the greatest in any video game. if you know, you know. I love this game, a whole lot. I'm not sure why I do, but I'm not gonna complain.

I have no idea why I went through my whole childhood, growing up with this game, never beating it until now. this game is honestly really great. It's so simple, so short, but it works so well in its favor. It's extremely replayable, and fun to try to master the ghost catching mechanics. the presentation is one of the best parts too, the music, the aesthetics of the mansion and ghosts, it meshes together perfectly. I mean there's some annoying bits, some of the portrait ghosts are troublesome, a lot of the later boos are very annoying, and I hate boolossus with a passion. but I can look past that. great game.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A: fuck pikachu. iykyk. [full review in alt text!]
I am fortunate enough to have dodged almost every spoiler, and most of the, sadly expected discourse surrounding this game, so i have unfiltered thoughts here. Pokemon Legends Z-A excels in so many areas, and falls short in a couple others. I think deviating away from turn based battles was a nice breath of fresh air, and at least in my case, it offered a decent challenge. Visually, while basic looking, it is clean and runs well, at least on switch 2. I wish more could've been put into the graphics but I'm not complaining after scarlet and violet looked as bad as they did. The music is stellar, I found myself humming just about every overworld and battle theme. I mostly enjoyed the new mega pokemon we got, no spoilers though. I think the main gameplay loop did get a bit repetitive, though I remember having a similar gripe with Legends Arceus. The story and characters I found very fun, lovable, and heartfelt. The theme of these people having connections to Lumiose, and developing a love for the city, it had me feeling the same. There's an amazing sense of comraderie and community in this game's story, and while I don't know if I like it more than SV's story, it comes damn close. My main gripes come from the often times boring and uninteresting side missions, and the INSANE grind just for the shiny charm. you need to do basically every one of mable's research tasks, including winning ONE. THOUSAND. TRAINER BATTLES. it's fucking absurd. It's all so boring and tedious. I did complete the pokedex which, I did find fun to be fair, but all that work, just for increased shiny odds? nah, I'm good. Despite that, the game at its core is really damn good, and I'm happy I enjoyed it as much as I did.
