I used to watch this show as a kid all the time. The other eye opening episode for me - as a white kid, anyway - was the one where Nell’s family had up a picture of Jesus in accurate skin tone and the daughter said “THAT’s not Jesus. Why is Jesus black?”

This episode was literally how I first learned was blackface (or Al Jolson) was. If I recall, it was meant to be seen as disgraceful in the episode?

I’d follow the NoMeansNo Live & Cuddly rule, if the banter fits with the energy of the crowd and it doesn’t diminish the momentum, keep it in.

This might require a third party opinion because we all know how mosts artists feel about hearing their own talking voices.

I was tempted to post the Beaten version instead, commonly called the “Quiet Storm” version, which is more crisp and bongo laden. I love both the long hard swarthy original and this Beaten version equally for different reasons.

James Brown has the most gigantic & convoluted complete discography of them all.

Even mapping all of Miles Davis’s catalog is easier for a completist.

Hold up, is this what Stevie Nicks was singing about on the B-side to “Go Your Own Way”?

I think it also comes down to who grew up with Minutemen/fIREHOSE/Mike Watt before hearing it. The bass is the key to this album, and it’s not shy with the occasional slap or thump, which may not be to everyone’s taste but just fine for a watt fan.

This deep house album “LTDBLBL021” by NicolΩ has been healing this past week. Released on a German label literally called Limited White Label with mostly anonymous artists.

I’ve never loved or hated Bruno Mars’ tracks. He’s consistently been steady & pleasant.

I heard Junior Senior’s “Move Your Feet” in the song immediately, although “Move Your Feet” itself probably interpolates Leo Sayer or something similar transitively.

Re: “Fast Car”, there’s Nice & Smooth’s “Sometimes I Rhyme Slow” which is a heavy interpolation. My favorite dance pop cover of an atypical song is Kamerata’s version of “Heroin”. Yes that “Heroin”

I guess it depends. Is Bananarama’s Shocking Blue cover absurd, is “Venus” atypical, and is that a good or bad thing? I guess I’m missing your point, so apologies. Long morning.

Of course, I gave my basic serious answer of Twin Peaks S3, and then Newhart mentions three woodsmen
