Is it time to put rest to rest? A great article by @esfinn.bsky.social , which cleverly lays out some unfound assumptions in the field of and an integrated way forward: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

It should be required reading for anyone using #resting-state or task-based #fMRI!

This is genuinely one of the best explanations I've ever read about permutation testing! 🦙 www.jwilber.me/permutationt...

Thank you ‪@jwilber.bsky.social‬ for breaking this down so clearly

My first #SOBP was awesome! There were so many great sessions where I learned about the neurobiological underpinnings of #depression and new treatments the field is adopting. Thanks to all who came by my poster #SOBP2025

One way we treat #schizophrenia is with repeated #TMS. Yet the response rate is variable, possibly because of coil positioning or due to an individual's unique brain architecture. Using tech like BOONstim (bayesian optimization of #neurostimulation) helps us refine maps and leads to better outcomes!

Excited to check out this talk tomorrow morning at 11:30 AM (EST) with @loliver4.bsky.social and Salim Mansour 🧠 We will learn about applying transcranial magnetic stimulation #TMS to treat #schizophrenia

Thrilled to share our latest work on the importance of considering social identities in brain imaging research, now out in @natureneuro.bsky.social.

Visual highlighting how sociodemographic identities influence brain, behavior, and brain-behavior relationships.
Figure caption: key goal of research in the brain sciences is to capture relationships between the brain and behavior. When studying these brain–behavior relationships, it is crucial to recognize that sociodemographic factors, such as sex, gender, race, ethnicity, education, religion, spirituality, health, language, environment, age and socioeconomic status (among others), can independently and interdependently influence these reciprocal associations.

Thanks to everyone's feedback, we have updated our calculator to optimize sample size N & scan time T for fMRI studies: leonoqr.github.io/ORSP_Calcula...

The first new feature is that users can explore how different N & T leads to different accuracy, e.g., N=1000 & T=30min => 81% max accuracy. 🧵

Do standard group-level analyses generalize to individual participants? Mattoni et al. (2024) makes a convincing case that they often do not, and we need to do a better at considering #individualdifferences in the context of cognitive #neuroscience

Dr. Aristotle Voineskos kicked off the Campbell Family Mental Health Speaker Series with a visionary talk about how we can implement our scientific discoveries @camhnews.bsky.social
1⃣ key take away is that we need a system that isn't afraid to adapt and refine itself when the data is clear 📈

Last week I attended a great talk by Adriana DiMartino (from
@childmindinstitute.bsky.social) who mentioned her open science initiative on the Autism Brian Imaging Data Exchange 🧠 One key take away is that using tools such as functional MRI can help build a bridge between biology and behaviour!

I attended a great talk today by Drs. Kiss and Clark, in which they emphasized why studying #biomarkers matters, especially in the context of #depression

Biomarker research provides 1) insights into underlying mechanisms, 2) better outcome prediction, and 3) more personalized treatments

New study showing that a novel form of neuromodulatory therapy, magnetic seizure therapy, is just as effective at reducing depression vs. standard electroconvulsive therapy in 73 patients. These effects even endured 2 to 6 months later!
