"People speak of hope as if it is this delicate, ephemeral thing made of whispers and spider's webs. It's not. Hope has dirt on her face, blood on her knuckles, the grit of the cobblestones in her hair, and she just spat out a tooth as she rises for another go."

Yesterday, Spc Sarah Becstrom was laid to rest in West Virginia at a VA National Cemetery.
Surprisingly none of the major major news media mention it. No flags were lower to half staff.
Well the Convicted FElon keeps the news focus on him.

TIL about "PeeWee," a never-identified female bootlegger who evaded arrest in the small town of Palisade, Colorado, population 855, in 1921.

I am now obsessed with PeeWee.

Because I like to make life interesting, today I decided to wrap my chicken coop for winter. During a snowstorm. In 24ºF temps. #WhyAmILikeThis #ChickenTender

911 operator: what’s your emergency?
Me: a dumpster is on fire at the mall*, I can’t decide if I should watch it burn or have the fire department put it out
911: ma’am?
Me: yeah I know this shouldn’t be this hard but late stage capitalism is really a drag, you know?

At 51, I'm already planning on moving outside the US in 10 or so years. When I tell people 70+ this they look at me funny and say 'that's a terrible idea.' When I tell younger people they nod and say they can see why.

The social contract is broken.
"In 2025, 40% of women aged 15 to 44 say they would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity. The current figure is four times higher than the 10% who shared this desire in 2014, when it was generally in line with other age and gender groups."
Record Numbers of Younger Women Want to Leave the U.S.
The percentage of younger women in the U.S. who express a desire to migrate permanently has surged in the past decade.

And our progressive candidates are winning. Maybe it’s the extra garlic?
Just “shopped from my fridge” to make a tapenade for an election watch party. Gourmet olives from #bartering, #garden grown parsley, and Costco olive oil doing the work. One thing that being food insecure taught me was to get creative with what I’ve got on hand. No shame. #HumbleBrag #FundSNAP

If you can, volunteer to "Text Out the Vote" in your local elections. I've had great text exchanges with voters who were confused over ballot measures, but the convos warmed my heart that people care enough to engage.

Unless you’ve been on SNAP or had to be a cashier in a grocery store while someone discovers the insane restrictions placed on SNAP food choices, I simply think you should shut the hell up about food access.

Last night, my neighbor and I were talking about #SNAP. She is a progressive/liberal white lady in her 70s who watches too much mainstream media, and she bought into the myth that there is rampant fraud with SNAP recipients getting money they “don’t deserve.”

Bet: Johnson lost control of the House and knows he's going to face a vote to replace him, which will open up all sorts of accountability for the Guardian of Pedophiles.
Johnson seems to think hostage-taking is just the kind of leverage his party needs to force the Democrats into complying with the regime. It’s a helluva thing to suggest, as Johnson did, that he has no regrets about starving people as long as it’s the right people being starved.

Caring for myself is not self-indulgence. It is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.

10 years ago, my life's trajectory was thrown out of orbit by a traumatic event. I know now that the universe had been sending me signs, but I ignored them. Pro-tip: never ignore the signs.

The lessons will keep repeating until we learn them.

My 2026 "health insurance" premium notice just dropped. I'm lucky to only pay +$100 a month more than this year. But my deductible is $6500 so basically I'll wait to be on the verge of death to use my benefits. Cool. Cool. Cool.
