Birdwatching makes me incredibly happy. I have a couple feeders in the yard, we planted a few small trees to improve the environment around the house, and I keep the Merlin app on my phone so I can find out who is singing around me. I also got a chickadee tattooed on my arm last year. 🐦🪺

News for Waterloo Region transit nerds: the ION route now displays with the Transit layer on Google Maps!

Even in Quebec! I travel to Montreal sometimes, and the IGA grocery store near my usual hotel has a bottle-return spot. Their street garbage cans have a special spot to put your empty containers so that others can come by and collect them to make a buck, a way they support their homeless population

Kitchener LCBO clearing out all the American product and taking the signs off too. Went in tonight and staff were rolling full carts of bottles off the floor. Bought myself some Canadian whisky and wine 🇨🇦

Today the bus dropped me off into a massive snowbank in front of the Waterloo regional building. Why can't the people who clear the sidewalks so beautifully take an extra minute to carve out a bit of space for people to get and off the bus?

@transit.app The app hasn't been showing me the location of the incoming bus/train for the past couple of days; it only pops in when I'm actually onboard with the app going. Is this a temporary glitch or is this a permanent change?

This is on a regional road, with a bus stop less than a block away. Accessibility MATTERS - for the young, the elderly, people with mobility devices and strollers, and those who just don't want to slip and fall.

(The bus stop still hasn't been cleared either, so really we're winning on all counts).

Yesterday was mild-ish, and the snow started to melt along the edges. But almost none of the street corners got cleared when everything was loose.

Then it froze solid overnight. Trying to get my child over these piles safely, while also watching for approaching cars this morning was... stressful.

Stumbled across this game at Mastermind Toys today and absolutely had to buy a copy. Stay tuned for an extremely casual review of Next Station: London.

Just saying, you can buy used for cheaper (and local)

One of my favourite things about my old elementary school is the massive portrait of Jeremiah Suddaby (a former principal), painted by A.Y. Jackson of Group of Seven fame, who is attributed on the decorative plaque only as ANOTHER former principal's grandson.

I have to say, I don't understand what's going on at these Kitchener transit stops. The bus stop on one side of Young St is a mess of ice and packed snow, and would be a nightmare to traverse with a stroller or mobility device. The ION station across the street is perfectly cleared.

Victoria & King in Kitchener. Heavy rail and light rail, all at once.

I absolutely have to show off the one-of-a-kind Christmas ornament my husband made me for Christmas - a 3D-printed ION LRT train to celebrate the start of my Master's program in urban planning 🎄🚊

Plus it comes with its own custom wooden storage box! (The benefits of being married to a maker-type 💕)

A magical, people-centred way to use a street on Christmas Eve.

My neighbourhood assoc. organizes a "Reindeer Runway" every year, where families come out to light candles and work together to build a runway for Santa to find our neighbourhood. It's exciting and yet so peaceful with the candlelight.

It's not like I put on the "Midnights" album as background noise whenever I'm driving by myself and it's dark, or when I want to focus on something for an hour.

(Objectively I think this is the funniest Spotify Wrapped I've ever pulled off, and I'm not mad about it)

This is one of my favourite things a local organization has ever done. Look at this sticker sheet!!!! I'm going to frame it and turn it into wall art, as is. But truly, we should be getting 8.5x11 posters of all of these images. Who works at GRT and can make this happen?

When I was a little kid, I loved playing with the wooden train set at Scholar's Choice while my mum was shopping.

I still love seeing the trains move through my city 🚉

Didn't have the chance to pop in this weekend, but I stumbled across a store all about design (including architecture and urbanism!) on Richmond St in Toronto. I'll definitely be visiting Swipe Design the next time I'm in TO to flip through some books
