Agree. Also, I have colleagues and friends who are into mainstream acts like The Beatles and Springsteen. I appreciate their legacy, but my relationship to music is more personal and idiosyncratic, which makes real musical common ground hard to find.

People who talk about music exist in small pockets—musicians, old souls, art lovers, classical nerds, vinyl collectors, and concert obsessives. (Basically… people like you and me 😉)
