OpenADR is a way to specify how grid operators and DERs can provide this flexibility. Open standards like OpenADR makes software more interoperable and means we can roll out different demand response schemes more quickly. Read more here: www.software.energy/p/energy-sta...
Energy Standards: OpenADR
Energy flexibility is becoming a standard way of operating an electricity grid. OpenADR specifies a common method for grid operators and devices to provide this flexibility.

Companies such as Camus and @krakentech.bsky.social are enabling this paradigm through the latest cloud technologies and AI.

By providing real-time and high-fidelity data of local grid conditions, grid orchestration enables operators to accelerate renewable energy adoption and improve grid stability.

Why is that the case? Is demand response not enough to manage frequency and voltage stability through discharge & consumption reduction? This is not my area of expertise so I'm likely missing something

DERMS can be deployed as a SaaS product on modern clouds such as AWS. They integrate with a wide range of DER providers using protocols such as OpenADR and DNP3. www.software.energy/p/grid-manag...
Grid Management Software: DERMS
In my previous post I outlined the pressures the electricity grid is experiencing due to the growth of new energy sources and DERs.

As more renewables come online it's vital we have systems in place to handle intermittent supply of electricity. DERMS give greater visibility into how DERs are affecting the grid and enable grid operators to better adjust to electricity supply and demand.

Vector Ltd in New Zealand used AWS Outposts to deploy their new ADMS. Cloud technologies are now proving themselves in the delivery of vital software for utility control rooms. I wrote more about ADMS here: www.software.energy/p/grid-manag...
Grid management software: ADMS
Historically the electricity grid has been a top-down, centralised system.

ADMS can serve as the brain of electric utility control rooms. They provide real-time monitoring and control of the grid, modelling tools and outage management capabilities.
