New paper out in @pnas.org! We study the effect of air pollution on pets, finding increased vet admissions when air quality is worse. Tackling air pollution doesn't just matter for human health - it's important for animals too, including people's much loved cats and dogs www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Love this! Great initiative

Nice piece out today in the @nytimes.com that includes some coverage of our recent @pnas.org paper on air pollution and pets.

The growth of Chinese EV and battery exports in the past few years is really something! 🔌💡
nicolasfulghum.bsky.social
NEW DATA | China's exports of clean technologies exceeded 20 billion USD for the first time in August📈

We just published a new @ember-energy.org data tool to track exports of EVs, batteries, gridtech etc. on top of our existing tracking of solar exports.

Call for papers and posters is open for #envecon2026. It is the UK's only premier applied environmental economics conference gathering research providers and users from academia, public and private sector.

I had never really thought about this before. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the video on this - very informative. This new tool looks bleak as hell.

10 year waiting period in particular is total bullshit. Who is this policy agenda even for? Utterly depressing.

Nice blog on data centers and electricity prices. Also that is a wild stat that one-third of worldwide hyperscale data centers are in Virginia! 🔌💡

My sense is this project needs some government financial backing from country where it would land. The UK balked at the cost and perceived geopolitical risks so I guess the developers are trying Germany. Spain/France must not be keen as I agree the integrated route you mention would be more logical.

Why did Apple take a perfectly functional app for managing a music library (iTunes), that could also transfer directly to an iPhone, and break it up into a bunch of inferior apps that are buggy as hell and have less functionality?! Enshitification in action.

France’s 2022 nuclear outages showed how vital interconnectors are for grid stability 🇫🇷⚡

This year, as heatwaves strained 🇫🇷’s nuclear fleet, interconnectors helped France replace the missing capacity through imports.

Just heard this paper being covered in @economist.com. A 50+% increase in incidence by midcentury is big. Was notable seeing growing concerns about the spread of mosquito-borne diseases when in France over the summer.
pnas.org
Dengue is a mosquito-borne illness that affects 100 million people annually. The incidence of dengue could be 49–76% higher by midcentury due to climate warming, depending on emissions scenarios. A study finds peak incidence at 28°C (82°F). In PNAS: www.pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1...
Patients covered by mosquito netting suffer from dengue fever as they receive treatment inside the Mugdha Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on June 20, 2025.

It's weird - but now in Oslo, there's so many EVs that you notice the noise and the smell from individual ICE cars, and you realise how much we've been normalising it for ever. You can smell them half a street away.

And inside parking lots are just *quiet*.
janrosenow.bsky.social
It's absolutely astonishing: In just about 13 years, Norway has skyrocketed from virtually no sales of zero-emission battery electric vehicles to nearly 100% of all new passenger car purchases.
