What a great thread! It really captures where I find myself - seeing where we could be versus where we are. I think a key difference is that Dr. Sawin sounds very grounded and peaceful, and I often find myself in the grip of rage against the people and forces in the way of getting there. 😫

I represent an author, and received my first email like this a few months ago. I replied saying "not our book but I hope you find the author you're looking for." I got a reply. It literally said, "you are stupid." When I tried to block, Gmail said the account no longer existed.

JFC. I'm in a monthly discussion group where the host proposes a topic. This month's topic is whether therapy chatbots are a good idea. Your experience makes me think about people refusing to work with actual human therapists who contradict their chatbot. WTF are we doing here?
