Mostly from Pittsburgh.
I think the Pirates off-season proceeds like this. They prioritize 3B and what they spend there determines what they do at DH. If they end up with Murakama, Okamoto, or Suarez, I think they bring Cutch back to DH. If they land Moncada or trade for Bohm, I think they sign someone like Arraez

Some more thoughts on the trade:

- Mike Burrows trade value and ceiling are a lot higher than a lot of people think. He’s already a four in an above average rotation and I think his could be a 3.

- Jake Mangum is very similar to Harrison Bader.

- Mason Montgomery might be the sizzle long term.

This trade makes a Cutch reunion more realistic for Pirates fans like myself who hate the idea of him retiring elsewhere.

Mason Montgomery has high leverage / back of the rotation upside and the Pirates still needed LHP. Would not be shocked if they stretch him out as a starter in ST, but barring injury, he’s very likely to head north.

Pirates, Astros, Rays trade is pending medicals, per source. Infielder Brandon Lowe, outfielder Jake Mangum and LHP Mason Montgomery would come to Pittsburgh, Mike Burrows to Houston.

The Pirates should be actively working to address LF in tandem with working on the splash signing. I think the hold up is that they’re prioritizing trading Keller to move his salary and reduce the prospect cost and they’re just not getting the offers they were expecting for him.

Just a theory, but I think the Pirates want to make one splash signing and build around it. At the moment, they’re prioritizing the Japanese 3Bs. If they miss there, they likely pursue Suarez and he might get more annually than either of them. I think they address 2B and LF via trades.

5 years at $150 million for a 33 year old full time DH is not great business. Neither is 4 years though.

This is 100% correct.
BUT. i do think the functional ceiling on schwarber is too high for the pirates, given the way they normally operate. and i do think that probably schwarber's agent has identified them as useful idiots that can get a fifth year or an extra $3-4 million per year from a real baseball team.

How the Pirates used Dauri Moreta this year was mind boggling to me and now they pick Yohan Ramirez and Cam Sanders over him. Insane even if Dauri will cost slightly more through arbitration.

The Pirates coaching moves are giving me hope that they might do some stuff that makes actual sense this winter.

Trump voters absolutely disappeared in PA.

Looking at the early swing from Trump to Yes in places like Carbon and Forest Counties and Hempfield Township Westmoreland I think it’s looking good for retention. Still a long way to go.

Esmerlyn Valdez is on an all-time heater in the AFL and a number of fans on here have taken notice. 13 BBs and 7 HRs in 33 PAs is wild, but it is a super small sample. He’s earned a 40 man roster spot for sure, but I hope the Pirates aren’t planning on him to plug a hole for 2026.

Is the Pirates front office just trolling fans now?

I don’t understand why inside the park HRs count against a pitchers FIP.

Pirates could really get creative with piggy backing next year.

Please don’t let them pay for a drink the entire time they’re in town.
A fan at PNC Park said they flew 23 hours to watch the Pirates on their sign in English/Japanese (I Believe) on the Jumbotron

The fan then flipped the sign, which said "Bob, Sell The Team!" in both English and Japanese, to which the Jumbotron focused on another fan

Shouldn’t have been on the roster after 8/1.

I don’t think I ever thought I’d say this but Triolo’s making a pretty solid argument to be the Pirates SS next season.

Sharing one more time. There have been quite a few forks in the road that could have sent Bubba Chandler down a different path. The fact that he’s joining the Pirates today — or ever — was far from guaranteed.

The path he forged made him the best pitching prospect in the game.
Bubba Chandler almost went to Clemson when he was passed in the Draft and when he struggled in ‘23.

Through those challenges, words from his father stuck: “You’ve got all the talent in the world. Don’t waste it.”
